Yes, you can reverse a single phase motor but not by reversing polarity, it has to be done using other circuitry. A DC motor can be reversed by reversing polarity and three phase motors can be reversed by swapping any two of the three phases.

On the 3 phase AC motor, you can reverse the direction of the motor by swapping the outer 2 phases, FYI :)

this dc motor is simple, exchanging polarity will change the moving direction,
it is just a way to control the turning direction of motor, gear box reduce the RPM of motor and meanwhile improve the torque, that's why it comes up to us
