Today we delve into the basics of setting up and automating larger machines in the Create mod. We also make a very successful exploration and item collection trip through the nether.

Etho, it looks like your game ran out of memory at 35:58. The lag spike was garbage collection freeing space in memory and the game allocating more.

You can see the allocated memory jump from 5728MB to 8192MB after the lag spike. If it has to do that again, it won't be able to allocate any more memory which could be what caused the crash.

Minecraft is pretty memory intensive on its own, but when you add tons of mods on top, it gets pretty insane. On a modpack I play (with 340 mods), I see the game use upwards of 10GB of memory while initially launching and loading mods. After a few seconds of play, I can see it allocating over 11GB to the game. I have the maximum set to 21GB since my system has 32GB of memory, and I've never had any out-of-memory issues.

What you can do is try to allocate more, but since you have 16GB total that can only go so far. Lowering your render distance could help too.

etho - I believe there's a special pair of goggles in the Create mod that you can wear, so that when you hover over the speedometer you'll be able to see the specific speed rather than just the little dial thing

Its nice to see that everyone is supporting and kind in the command section. God nows that it could be way different. It shows what kind of people watch ethos videos and what kind of guy he is. I am 30 now and still watch every video as soon as it is out even though I have not been playing Minecraft in at least 10 years.

I remember running straight home to my computer every day to check for a new lets play from you, and at school I couldn't think about anything but your videos. The focus you put on the technical aspect of Minecraft and games in general is what drove my interest in the technical aspects of computers. From the wiki: The Engineer's Goggles will show the stress impact of the viewed machine while it is running. They will also give numbers and highlight the current rotation when looking at a Stressometer or Speedometer. Additionally, they show how much fluid is in a tank along with the total storage capacity of the tank.
It only requires 2x glass, 1x string and 1x golden sheet to craft.

Hey Etho! Quick tip, it's easy to make an array of water wheels to better power your setup. If you want to make your Create factory interconnected, furnace engines are more powerful. Water wheels are much easier to set up though, and they lend well to more scattered factory builds.

Etho, I just recently saw your tweet about your dad having cancer, I’m sorry to hear that. Take all the time off you need, I’ve been putting older episodes on loops during the night and throughout the day, im sure it won’t be much but hopefully the ads playing in them help out while you take this time off.
