They're not found very often, but some airports use a Localizer Type Directional Aid or LDA Approach, which uses a localizer like on an ILS although for one of several reasons, it's not aligned with the runway centerline. We'll dissect this LDA approach into The Dalles, Washington.

If you want another weird LDA, go 50 mi west, to MY home field, KVUO - Historic Pearson Field. We use the LOC for PDX’s 10L, across the Columbia river, different state, different airport, talking to PDX controllers. Oh, and they’ll only give it to us if THEY are using the 10’s. But DON’T follow the ILS glide slope down or you’ll be hurtin’!

So the minimums for this approach is greater than the minimum VFR requirements of 1k ceiling and 3 sm visibility?
