Taking a look into how the Su-22M3 squadron jet performs in today's meta, is it a worthwhile plane to put your squadron research into? Or is it mainly just a neat collectible?

Some advice here:
Aim-54 Phoenix and Aim-7 Sparrows are radarguided radarmissles.
If the range is too high they are not actively seeking with their own radar, they are guided(to the point they can actively seek) by the aircrafts radar.
The F-14 has a normal radarmode and a puls-doppler-radarmode.
As you did in the beginning flying low helps to avoid normal radar, because it cannot differentiate between you and the ground.
The puls-doppler however works in a different way. It can differentiate you from the ground due to the puls-doppler-effect (different radarthrowback due to difference in speed between you and the ground).
But this only works if you fly towards/away from the puls-doppler-radar.
If you fly perpendicular to the radar, there is no difference in speed between you and the ground (from the viewpoint of the puls-doppler).
Meanwhile if you want to dodge missle, you need to stay fast. They faster you are the harder a missle has to turn and the easier it gets to bring the missle to the point where it cannot pull any harder.
If you are fast(0.95mach+) and people try to missle you from 2, 5-3km you can get into a shallow climb (no speed loss) and slightly turn left and right while staying fast.
Why? Most missles have a really short burntime after which they glide.
They will try to intercept your flightpath which means by turning slight up and then doing slight turns left and right, you will bleed the missle of alot of energy, to the point where it is to slow to reach you.
This is a tip for when you are out of flares or dont want to waste a flare.

Tldr.:

- Fly low (Brakes/prevents radarlock from normal radars)
- Keep your speed (Easier dodging/outrunning missles/enemies to reset unfavorable fights)
- If radar pinged keep a habit of turning perpendicular to the radarsource to break radarlocks from puls-doppler-radars.
- If you have chaff use it and dodge, if you have no chaff, you need to make that missle turn hard one way and then turn the other way to dodge it.

- For IR-potatoes:
- Try to not present your "hot" rearend to the enemy, it´s easier to flare front and side aspect-shots.
- If someone decides to fling an IR-potato at you, cut your afterburner (F-14´s need to cut a good amount of throttle too, because hot damm engines), flare and turn your rearend out of harms way.

Hope this helps ;)

Best critique I can make for small YouTubers starting out is less cuts in between in the hanger it makes it look choppy and ruins the pacing

The Su-22M3 either needs to go down to 10.3/10.7 or get a flare buff and all aspects (R-60M).

I love the jet, but the fact that they don't have the extra flare pod modeled really kills me. Literally. It's a very enjoyable jet, the only saving grace of playing at the br it's at is it will teach to how to dodge missiles better than the lower tiers. Truly wish it was a 10.3 or that it had the flare pod.

My dad worked in poland on an airbase where they operate these back in the days, he has some awesome photos with these. So as bad as this plane is in the current meta, it has a special place in my heart.

one word for this video : PAIN, but i feel ya man, i've been grinding the Mirage IIIC for a long time now and having no flares is indeed painful so, good luck out there and keep up the good work ;)

The only thing you can do with this jet is taking 20x 100 kg bombs and 2x R60's, rush directly at one of the objectives at the beginning of the game by flying really close to the ground, destroy completely the objective, then try to shoot down an enemy jet or return to the base directly, but in general enemy F-5's will shoot you down before you return to your base. This loadout will make you really heavy, at the beginning you will not even reach 1 mach but once you get rid of your bombs it will go way faster and it will be more agile. And take the minimum amount of fuel so you will be lighter and since you will return to your base after bombing the objective you will not need a lot of fuel. But in general this jet is really pain. And having only 12 flares in 10.7 now doesn't help at all... it can be the worst in it's BR... and dude these R60's take forever to lock on the target even when you manage to get behind the enemy

I’m not lying, i swear to god… small WT YouTubers are being recommended to me and the vids they make are so good and so underrated, your channel has been recommended to me and I thank YT algorithm for doing so, dropping a sub rn.

the only way to play this thing is to get 6x 500kg bombs and 6 r60s, go eat a base first, and then go to the furball to catch unaware people
even if u cant kill anyone and die, you still have some sl from that base

It might not be good, but i still want it because it looks sick

At a certain point, the obsoleteness of the plane overshadows any sliver of potential it could have had in today's matchmaker, the other options are drastically better than what it provides, but a fun video nonetheless to see just how hopeless it is to play in an uptier or really at all. Also liked that you didn't shoot the falling plane and called the f5-c a bastard xD

At 15000m the su-22m3 can go mach 3 I tried it out once but it will take 10-15min to assume that speed so practically you can use it in a match unless its a long range custom battle

I like small Youtubers I don’t see them very often but you’re probably gonna go viral

10.3 is perfect.
The lack of CM, radar, or actual missiles is absurd to be fighting F16 or even F-4 with

When the radar gunsight reads as tracking - it gives a solid radar lock to the targets RWR. Better to turn it off if you want to sneak up to R60 range on someone.

I spaded the thing during the previous patch, i love it but it really isn't competitive at all. 12 flares and only R60s at that tier? Not even the ground to air missiles are good enough to justify the BR. Oh and worse of all you can't pre-chaff either lmao.
By using that thing i unlocked the Su-17M4 and my god if it is a HUGE improvement over this thing. 200+ flares with 6 R60Ms and TV guided missiles felt like glory when i first got it. It still is my main ''top tier'' jet and now with the BR changes it feels even bettter, almost cheating in a downtier. Plus, the M4 can carry six missiles and two gunpods, while the 22-M2 can only carry such gunpods by sacrificing two missiles which isn't worthy at all (those gunpods aren't necessary but get to be very useful most of the time)

Mig-23MF and others probably in the same boat, 11.0 and unable to last more than 1-2 missile locks in most games.

One of the very few good things gets every ballistic computers in the game.

One of the coolest and best looking jets but just painful suffering to play. Real shame since it was my first "top tier" jet for USSR

held off buying it for a long time, but yeah not buying it, wish i did the same with the A-4E a long time ago, too hard to play for me

will go for the sea harrier once i can finish researching that
