I bought a hybrid. The savings is amazing and I don’t have to recharge. It has more power than my old car.

As a car mechanic I see a lot of potential to electric cars. The mechanical systems are much more simple. No oil changes/leaks, no gas tank/leaks, no brake pad replacements, no exhaust system to deal with, very little heat, thus, expansion and contractions are limited so parts can last longer.. Im not saying they are without problems, I just see potential. Also, a guy could get off the grid with a small windmill/solar panels and stop depending on oil companies and government. I think they are kinda cool and have potential. Honestly I don't care what you drive, in some cases, combustion will be better, in others electric might be better.. just stop hating on stupid stuff!

Many horse and buggy owners probably said they "would never buy one of those damn smelly, noisy automobiles!" Pete spoke the truth though. The EV revolution is coming like it or not and China is knocking at our door with cheap imports (both EV and Hybrid) that could wipe out our auto industry. In 2023 7.2% of vehicles sold in the US were EVs or about 1.2 Million vehicles. The pace of sales has slowed a bit and for some reason that has left a lot of folks thinking that EVs were just a fad. Too many people get caught up in the day-to-day noise and fail to see to long-term trends.

And manufacturers are losing billions on electric cars

We have always had laws against driving while under the influence. What is she talking about?

EVs and high speed trains are the future! Air taxis too.

If people were buying EVs in any significant number then the government wouldn't be having to heavily subsidize sales and manufacturers wouldn't be backpedaling on bringing them out. Look at the Ford Lightning. It has to carry $20k worth of discounts just to sell.

She wasn't able to quickly process his points or the facts and positions he stated. She couldn't seem to incorporate them into her own comments or her questions.

Even vapes for example, have plastic and batteries that once the batteries go bad it goes straight into the landfill or trash. All these batteries and mining for them is terrible for the environment.

On a side note, could we bring back paper and glass since they are both way better for the environment than the plastics they forced everyone to use starting in the 90s? Thanks.

Where do charging stations get their power? Hmm?

EVs getting better and better; hybrids amazing (best of both); current oil infrastructure and impact cost and costing billions and billions. Change isn't easy; climate change is hard, disastrous, and deadly. Thank goodness for rational, visionary public servants like Pete Buttigieg and making decisions with analysis, evidence, and facts.

What is the advantage of a coal-fired car over an oil-powered car? We have abundant oil.

Very glad to see so many positive comments below. I also agree about his logical articulation. I will always lean towards the "smartest guy in the room" and that seems particularly true in a compare and contrast environment where inarticulation, avoidance of issues (read solutions) and planning beyond the end of so many transactional noses dominate the conversation. To the short-sighted occasional comments below hopefully you will notice that change will always exist. We should just hope smart people are leading the way.
