Christian Apologist Sam Shamoun refutes alex o connors bible question about why did Jesus pray to the father when ressurecting lazarus if he’s God and can Jesus do stuff on his own accord?

When we look at the bible we see Jesus prayed before resurrected Lazarus in order for apostles and everyone around him to see that the father approves of him do these things and that they are in union with each other and then this message is true. Amen to everything that he says so that when the father does something, Jesus also does it in the spirit because they are inseparable and do things together

When I heard that question by O'Connor my first thought was- "have you ever opened a bible in your life" because the answer is literally in the exact same chapter. Jesus quite literally tells us _exactly_ why he prayed.

The second part to Alex's question might also have been meant like "could Jesus have resurrected Lazarus without praying first?". And the answer to that is a clear yes. As we've seen, Jesus didn't pray to get permission from the Father. Rather, the prayer was for the listeners and our edification. When Jesus resurrects Jarius' daughter, however, he doesn't say a prayer beforehand. He just commands her to rise and she rises. Clearly, this is possible because Jesus is God and He, the Father and Spirit share the same will. Because He does the will of the Father, He can raise whoever He wills without saying a prayer first because that is the Father and Spirit's will as well. And He is the resurrection and the life, which the father confirmed when He raised Lazarus.

I love this explanation! I did have one question though. Why does Jesus say only the Father knows the day and the hour in Matthew 24:36? I’m genuinely curious about why Jesus would not know this day.
