Recall: Kobalt Max Model KM2040X-06 & Greenworks G-Max 40v Push Mower Won't Run: Failure & Repair

Recall Info Below: This Kobalt 40V Mower (Greenworks G-Max 40V) suddenly stopped & my diagnosis lead to problems in the mower deck / module / motor area. After a call with Kobalt Technical Support, I learned this mower has been recalled due to a potential fire hazard.

This also applies to Greenworks G-Max 40V mowers.

If you have a Greenworks 40v mower that turns on then off right after then it has a bad handlebar safety switch (SKU 36301289). Do not replace, they are notorious for failing to work. Had a new mower sent to us under warranty and that one failed shortly after, Never even made it to the grass before the same issue as the last mower. I now have removed the safety switch and put in a toggle switch from the white wire to the green wire as the fix.

The acceleration bar popped out and when I put it back in I can’t stop it from running forward.. how do I adjust the tension?

Please forgive this crazy question, but I have this mower, and it is not working. I have not checked the switch yet but I will. My question is this, you said you put the link to Kobalt CS, but I don't see it nor do I know how to find it. I'm a bit of a novice to these videos. I have never had to search for any other info, because you amazing gentlemen who make these tutorials always answer my questions. I don't like to Google phone numbers, because I was almost taken for a lot of money when I thought I called the right CS #. I know you didn't need all of that info, but I wanted you to know why I come to people like you instead of a site from Google. Thank you so much!

I also have one of these mowers. My problem is when I tried new batteries, they didn’t work. The old batteries still work, but they are original and don’t last as long as they used to. Did you ever get the mower fixed?

Mine started smoking and just quit. Doesn’t work now. Could be my problem

I bought a used Kobalt 80v mowever. it looked so new, I didn't bother to check the manufacture date. I went out and added a couple of 6 Ah batteries to my arsenal, and the second time I used the mower on deep grass, which has never been a problem for my Greenworks 80v mower, the lawnmower crumped on me. I tried to see if Kobalt or even Lowes would do something, they all played stupid or ignorant and I do mean all of them. Even the Greenworks Tech Support acted like real ass wagons on this one. I have it disassembled and had a guy that a place that inspects AC motors check it out. He told me, without putting power through the motor, that the motor seemed to be good. What happens? When I hit the starter and pull back the handle, nothing happens then a few seconds in the mower starts to beep. Same when I try to engage the drive. I needed to take the mower apart anyway. it had a horrible odor of what smelled like the flats in new England when the tide is out, with sort of a rotting smell too. I completely cleaned everything, which needed to be done. Since everyone turned their back on me, as a parting shot at tech support, who was simply quoting me passages out of the owner's manual the whole time, I may have said that I will just modify my $600 collection of 80v Kobalt batteries to fit the opening of my older Greenworks 80v mower. That got the Canadian chick at Greenworks tech support, who also apparently has a low opinion of people in the USA, very upset..LOL Good luck trying to find a replacement motor, which I did. I have not tackled the control head issue, but hopefully replacement parts with an FCC ID on them will be easier to run down.

Mine quit working the first day I took it back to Lowe’s got a refund and bought another brand that works great.
