iPhone Stuck In SOS Mode? Here's The REAL Fix!

David & David explain how to fix the problem when your iPhone is stuck in SOS Mode. When your iPhone says SOS or SOS Only, it isn’t connected to a wireless network, but you can still make emergency phone calls.

Most of the time, your iPhone says #SOS or SOS Only because you’re out of range of your carrier’s network, and to fix it, you’ll need to go somewhere with coverage.

But sometimes your iPhone can get stuck on SOS Mode even in areas where you should have coverage.

0:10 Why Your Phone Says SOS
0:33 Turn Airplane Mode On & Off
1:05 Data Roaming
1:39 Carrier Settings Update
2:17 Restart Your iPhone
3:11 Eject and Reseat SIM Card
4:12 What If I Have eSIM?
4:56 Update Your iPhone
5:15 Check Configuration Profiles
6:09 Reset Network Settings
6:48 Reach Out To Apple Or Your Carrier

Quickly toggling Airplane Mode on and back off again gives your iPhone a fresh chance to connect to your carrier’s wireless network.

If you’re traveling internationally, check your data roaming settings. Just be careful, as data roaming can get very expensive if you’re not careful.

It’s a good idea to check for a carrier settings update. Carrier settings updates are released by your wireless carrier and Apple to improve your iPhone’s connection to your carrier’s network. You can manually check for this type of update in Settings → General → About.

Next, try ejecting and re-seating your iPhone’s SIM card. Your iPhone’s SIM card is what connects it to your carrier’s wireless network. It’s possible the SIM card has become dislodged or damaged, leaving your iPhone stuck on SOS mode. If you have eSIM, toggle your plan off and back on again in Settings → Cellular.

If your iPhone is still stuck in SOS Mode, check for an iOS update. Some software updates include “modem” updates, which help improve your iPhone’s connection to wireless networks.

To address a deeper software problem, try reseting the network settings on your iPhone. This erases all the Wi-Fi, Cellular, VPN, and APN settings to factory defaults.

You guys are life savers !!! I dropped my phone at the gym and it immediately went into SOS mode for 2 days straight despite me restarting it over and over . Just removed and inspected my SIM card, and my LTE coverage came back !!

Toggled airplane on and off and it resolved my hour long issue. Thank you and YouTube should reward your heroic efforts.

It works! I never had "SOS Only" for many years until a month ago. I kept getting SOS Only. I used the airplane mode method, and it works (iPhone 8 Plus) ! Finally! Thank you very much!

Even though my phone automatically does updates, I forced my phone to update regardless and this fixed it for me if anyone is still having issues after all this

I was travelling on a highway in the middle of nowhere when this happened. Used the post of my earring to eject my SIM card. LOL 😂 😂

Listen, I toggled airplane mode 20 times in a row, then left it on airplane mode for like 10 seconds, then turned it off, and now it works!!!! 🎉

My SOS only/no sim issue started after I finally updated the software on my iphone to iOS 17.3 - boooo. No "tricks" in this video worked for me including resetting network settings. I ended up calling my carrier and they had me take out my sim card and installed an e-sim which has finally done the trick. thank you guys for the guidance :)

I never knew this was an issue with iPhones. What a disaster these things are. I just bought my first iPhone after 13 years of only using Android, and my brand spanking new 14 pro is stuck in SOS mode. I've tried every fix you guys mentioned and nothing works. I've even tried them multiple times. I ended up contacting Verizon and they told me to wait 24 hours and it should work, but I have my doubts.

In all my years with Android, though I had my share of issues with them, I never had a problem with them connecting to the network. This is stupid and makes me hate Apple even more than I already did. This is stupid and shouldn't even be a thing. I can see a bug like this existing at a time and being fixed, but evidently this has been an issue on iPhones for years. Crazy.

SOS MODE is a buggy feature that Apple either needs to fix or allow us to disable.
If you are on TMobile and none of these fixes work for you go into Cellular Settings, turn off roaming, turn off auto select cellular network then select T-Mobile network as default, if you have a weak cellular connection turn off 5G auto and select LTE only, finally in wifi settings make sure wifi calling is ON then scroll all the way to the bottom of screen and turn Off WIFI Assist. Took me some time but this fixed the issue for me, because Apple SOS Mode interferes with auto switching to wifi calling on the T-Mobile network.
This is not a great solution but the only one that works for now.

Thank you so much, you solve my problem! My phone has been in and out of SOS mode for the past month but this time it was stuck on SOS mode for over 24 hours. Removing then inserting the sim card in fixed the problem!

Thank you so much for the useful suggestions. Prior to watching your video I kept only finding videos where third-party software companies were trying to say that the only way to solve it was to use their random software which made me very nervous. Turning my data roaming on helped solve the issue.

I've got an issue that is apparently an issue for a lot of people online. Sometimes, when I receive a phone call, the phone button stays green and won't turn to red. This keeps me from hanging up the phone after the call ends. Mine is Iphone 12, IOS 16.4.1. Found a lot of complaints online but no solutions.

Hi guys, thank you for the video. I recently switched from Android to IPhone and had never seen an SOS like that on Android. I DID however know that it was an SOS and not a “sos” lol. The airplane mode did not fix mine but the data roaming did so a big thank you again.
