This should have been titled "Proof that anything can sound good if you're good" XD

I once heard the phrase "you're never more than a half step away from a correct note", so that penultimate example really shows how accurate that statement is. Passing tones (or leading tones, if you prefer) are generally acceptable to most people's ears if you don't stay on them too long.

Yup. Haha. You definitely are into music theory. I love the Nashville chord chart too, cause if you're lost on a song you can just give the number out to your band mate with your hand.

The intervalic content of some of the chords is important too. For chords that have “wrong” or “bad sounding” notes in them, moving those notes an octave up or an octave down, thus changing the interval, can do wonders for making seemingly disparate chords flow a lot better.

Great! Lets call it reharmonizing... I'm pretty sure you're a master in this as well

I find these short lessons very effective and inspiring. Thank you!

Also if you hit wrong note confidently (with strong attack) it will sound “ok”, and if you take right notes with lame attack they all sound wrong or out of tune.

It helps....from F MAJOR/D min as the parent KEY.
Im simply going to play Gb Maj7 ( barr at the 6th fret) as the N6 chord of F MAJOR
Then hammer/pull with my PINKY #11/ 12
to Eb Min
Then....E Maj7 to A MAJOR
Then G Maj as lydian dominant C7 to F MAJOR

I could had also easily played Eb Maj7 A min then C# dim into D min
or do that same sort of lick/riff like Gb maj7...but at Eb maj7 ( N6 of D min)
then C# dim into D min

or even at C# Maj7 then A7 into D minor
maj7 then G min C7 into F MAJOR
or C# Maj7 then Gb Maj ( barr at the 2nd fret) N6 chord of F MAJOR
then E min A7 into D min..it's just from D melodic min.

i could had easily play those so call N6 chords as min chords...
it's just DIFFERENT SOUNDS..until I resolve it back to the F MAJOR/Dmin chord.

Gb maj7 Eb min Ab min Db dim into D min

C# maj7 E min C7 D min

This reminds me of that Jacob Collier video where he talks about how every note can be harmonized with every chord if you do it right. I should probably watch that again.

Beautiful video, people with a natural music talent can do this while not knowing theory.
Anyone can do it tbh
Just a matter of phrasing it.

I tend to play wrong notes on purpose. By that I mean that I play with a lot of disonense that I rarely resolve.
When one tends to listen to the noiser side of Goth Rock, Industrial and early Black Metal that's kind of the point.
I do like to see what other people are doing in different styles though.

Steve Vai does that in the hydra ( pretty sure)!

My music theory teacher Zombola told us, there is no bad note, but not enough confidence
