I grew up playing golf as a youngster in the late sixties through the seventies and managed to get to a good standard playing the amateur circuit. In those days it was far less complicated as we only had two wedges a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. Your great explanation of going for medium bounce and adjusting the way you play them (reduce bounce, increase bounce) simply by adjusting the lie/angle of the club was the way we played with just two wedges. I am coming back into the game after many years out and all of this new technology of so many wedges with all the different specs is a bit complicated to me. However, your go for the medium bounce and adjust from there is definitely the simplest way for me to understand.

This is the best explanation I’ve heard, loads better than the manufacturers claiming to want to help you get the right fit, thank you

Thanks for just getting straight into it and just telling me what bounce is and why it matters instead of going into some tedious 5-minute introduction like so many... "overseas" videos.

Great video. Now I get it. Lean shaft forward for less bounce (tight lies etc) and back for more bounce (tall grass/rough)

60° sm10 K 14bounce 56°sm10 F 14bounce and 52° sm10 F 14bounce for me high bounce wins. Club doesnt get burried no more fat shots on tight wet grass if need to flop it i open face take a tad bit divot or close face like he said

Medium bounce is the way to go if you are playing only one wedge, normally only a sand wedge. I would assume most golfers today play with three wedges, not including their pitching wedge. Something along the lines of a 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges. That lends to the opportunity for some versatility in range of bounce you carry in the wedges. A spread of 8, 10 and 12 degrees of bounce across the wedges is the way to go. With no particular correct combination (loft/bounce). Whatever suits your game. The only constant is that the lie dictates what bounce you can (should) use

Great video Mark, I want forgiving wedges and for my sand wedge and lob working in wet and fluffy sand and in the rough and tight lies so I guess medium bounce could be the key then. Do you think that speciality wedges( Sand/ lob) are better than wedges all in a set of irons as I’ve had some pros tell me that set wedges tend to blade shots more and you need more bounce.

How much is medium bounce?? What would a medium bounce be for a 54 or 58 degree? Thank you for addressing this question!!

What about the best bounce for opening up the face and practicing those insane flop shots we see on tv? I don't care about a low score I just want to impress my buddies with bomber drives and crazy flop shots that spin so much they end up back at the tee.

I can’t stand high bounce SW/GW, even out of a bunker. What is standard bounce for an iron?
