I couldn't think of anything better than this around 100 bucks, especially here in Japan. It even beats some speakers at 4-500 range imo. I have recommended it to multiple friends and all of them are extremely satisfied. Also I love how for a Japanese brand like Sony it's more expensive to get a pair of CS5s in Japan than in the US.

I got these a few months ago and when paired with a dedicated bass it's absolutely amazing.

Pioneer BS22s, Miccas and these Sonys have helped to democratize mid-fi Audio....I use the Sonys in near-field setup at my computer desk and along with a 10" sub at my feet, the sound is crisp and clear and can get big.

They sound best when limited to above 200hz. A minidsp and a midbass module works and sounds great with these.
The minidsp will let you do a high shelf filter, tame down the highs by about 1.5db (starting at 700hz) and then it's all smooth.

I bought a pair of the Sony cs5 speakers, they're not bad speakers, I was impressed with how strong they are and sounded when I plugged them with a vintage pioneer amp without a subwoofer. Now I have the speakers plugged with a Sony STR-DH190 receiver and Sony cs9 subwoofer for extra bass. So far I'm happy with the whole Sony setup. Sure it's not the best stereo I've owned, but it's decent and the first brand new system I've bought in a long time. Edit: I just added a pair of the Sony ss-cse Dolby atmos speakers on top of the cs5s just to add a little more voice to my stereo equipment, now I have a Sony 4.1 setup.

I have the Sony speakers for about 2 years now. In Europe it is never on sale. Its build is 100euro. The sound is 200-300euro. I paid 200.

I am using a Topping PA3 amplifier. And have been using the Audioquest Dragonfly Black or Oehlbach usb bridge as a dac for a while.

BUT with my new TOPPING D70 PRO OCTO...with this dac the Sony speakers really showed the potential. The distance to the wall, is one times the depth of the speaker on a desk.

I'm watching this video right now while listening to it using my Sony SS-CS5 speakers and they do look and sound fantastic. So, bravo to Sony for making great speakers at a very competitive, affordable price.

I love these little speakers, its also nice to see they resemble the decades older Sony SS-H5500 speakers

got a pair at best buy for 129 bucks, I was impressed with the sound, yes at high volume they definitely get very bright, but at mid volume, in a small room, they really sound very good at the price point

Bought a very gently used set that look like new for $75. Wall mounted next to PC monitor and connected to an old AVR. Paired it with a REL 1003 subwoofer and crossed over at 100hz. Sounds excellent now! Total cost $450. AVR=free, Sony speakers $75, REL 1003 sub $350, speaker wall mounts $25. Huge upgrade for PC audio!!

I see the speakers but I'm not buying them. You said they are $80 to $100 for them, but AMAZON wants $198. They instantly lost the sale. I'm not paying $200 for an $80 set of speakers.

Weak bass? I disagree. The song "Waiting for a Girl Like You (Foreigner) | Lexington Lab Band" has almost the full range of a bass guitar. The song sounds great on the Sony's, actually amazing considering a woofer barely over 5". Also "Tomahawk" by Tigerblood Jewel sounds great.

I like to recommend Kanto passive 5.25” speakers to non audiophiles. They sound great, people come over and think they’re $1K speakers all the time. They do sound good though just a touch of warmth, not fatiguing in the least, and they look good too! I’ve been using them as sound bar replacement speakers, with a subwoofer.

Thanks for the video bro. I have been considering this speaker for 3-4 years and still considering 🙈. I just saw in your video it’s made in Malaysia where I am from, wonder if I can find cheaper deals lol.
You crack me up with the audiophile moment. Love your personality somehow reminds me of Ezra The Flash. Keep doing what you do the best

I think these were mainly designed as rear speakers for the whole core series, or atleast to be used with the SACS9. And those wanting in more bass without a subwoofer can go for the SSCS3 towers, also from the same core line...

Skylabs Audio said the workers and customers thought they sounded horrible. But it's a big room. And they get quite bright sounding with that port noise as well. Can't blame them for saying they suck with that in mind. They normally play with a pair of PSB bookshelf speakers. I'll take a hard pass. Hi-Vi Swans Oasis 140 passive speakers for $130 via Amazon is my bang for buck outstanding favorite. Same with Rogersound Labs (RSL) integrated amp (class D dac amp) AI255.1 for only $110 at Amazon. It includes a 90 hz high pass crossover with a true 3.5 aux out (not variable) for sub. Great build quality and specs. Extremely clean and deserving of the hype. In the end we all like different things/different sound.

I have two audio systems and I have a speaker collection. I bought a pair of these for 80 bucks and I love them. I always rotate my speakers out. These things are pretty good for 80 bucks.

A lot of Audiophiles are snobs. These are a great starter system for someone looking to get into audio. Good video

I drive these speakers out in my garage man cave (24'x24') with a Yamaha R-S202 receiver paired with a Polk PSW-10 sub. Decent sound for a under $400 system. I greatly reduced the tubby bass by simply removing the covers and speakers and placing a 16"x8"x4" thick fiberglass batt between the front interior panel and the port. With the treble control at 0db and bass at 4+db I'm smiling.
