Sri Lanka's economic crisis sparks exodus of thousands | DW News

As Sri Lanka struggles to recover from its worst economic crisis in decades, its people are leaving for better opportunities abroad. Government figures suggest some 122,000 people have left the country till May this year - the same number that left the country in all of 2021! Faced with rising prices and growing poverty, their reasons for leaving are quite evident.

Before this crisis, Siri Lanka was a middle-income countries with a growing young middle-class and highest standard of living within South Asia. To go within months from being a member of the middle-class to joining the rank of the poor searching for scraps to feed your family and fighting for fuels to keep your lights on must be quite a experience. 😢

Country is much better compared to what it was last year. People are working together to build the country... There is a lot of progress starting from improved tourism, reduced gas and utility prices, reduced USD rate and also improved inflation.. last thing we want is now bad media promotion like this.. even in Indian you have people eating lentil and rice in some areas..
