Which life jacket is for you? A Inflatable or a Foam? In this video we talk about the differences in two different kinds of life jackets
If you're looking for a life jacket that is easy to wear all day and will provide plenty of flotation, the inflatable is for you! On the other hand if you're looking for a life jacket that has pockets and is built for survival and will be more useful, then the foam life jacket is for you! Both are great life jackets and will do the job. If you're looking for something in the middle, then Neoprene jackets will suit you best.

I just signed up for my very first sailing lesson this week and had to buy a lifejacket. I decided to buy one with foam, since I figure that the inflatable ones are inherently less reliable, because 1) the chemical reaction that causes them to inflate might not occur, especially if the jacket isn't brand-new, 2) the tiniest puncture in the tubing will cause it to deflate, and 3) even if there is a manual pump option, it takes quite a bit of time to blow it up yourself, and you just don't have that time and you don't need that stress in an emergency situation.

A class 1PFD isn't considered a PFD unless it's being worn.
