Frauke Urban is Professor in the management of sustainable energy systems at the Royal Institute of Technology KTH in Sweden. She researches and teaches about sustainable energy transitions, climate change mitigation and decarbonization of energy and transport systems.
Aviation transports more than 4 million passengers annually, is highly dependent on fossil fuels and accounts for about 2.5% of global CO2 emissions. To reduce the climate impact of aviation, new fuels and technologies are needed such as sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), electric propulsion and green hydrogen. This presentation outlines the progress that is being made towards sustainable energy transitions in the aviation industry, as well as policy changes and behavioural perspectives.
