So recently Sony overhauled their whole TV and soundbar line up, and today we have the Bravia Theater Bar 8 which has a much more minimalistic and slimmer design than Sony’s previous generation of soundbars… and the Bar 8 puts a lot more emphasis on vocals and openness than with Sony’s last generation of soundbars. Nonetheless, if youre looking for a Sony soundbar to compliment your new Sony TV, or any other TV, lets see what the Sony Bravia Theater Bar 8 is all about.

You definitely need to add the sub woofer to the Bar 8 for full sound. It really completed the sound.

Today I unpacked and set up the Bar 8. I don’t know what it is with today’s speaker technology. Thing is, I must be spoiled coming from an era when sound obviously had to be REAL sound, not some processed mixed bag of this added and that left out. In short, I was deeply disappointed when I set up the system shortly after listening. Did I do something wrong? No extra speakers connected, the Bar 8 sounded like a sophisticated portable radio from the past, like the big portables like Grundig and Philips used to sound. Good for portable sound but not for room filling audio. I fed the Bar 8 with normal tv sound and music streamed from Spotify. And it didn’t take long for me to disconnect the Bar 8 and put it back in its box. I maybe played 25 different Spotify tracks and watched a few tv programs. Yes, the Bar 8 can do a lot of tricks and I tried some content from DVD and Blue Ray. It does what it claims to do but that’s all, that plasticky sound flavour being present all the time. I will end up this review like I started it. I’m spoiled and feel sorry for those who have to do with stuff like the Bar 8. Sony, you can keep all gimmicks and knowledge. Just produce something that delivers, not sound that clearly comes from a plastic box. Because that’s the way this thing sounds like, specially when it has to play normal tv sound and normal, unprocessed stereo music. Greetings from Hekelingen, The Netherlands. Bye, Willem.

Honestly, i think the a5000 is pretty good value, if you can even find it. I can barely tell any difference between the 2. Not enough to justify the msrp. with the extra change get either the sw3 or sw5 sub.

For iPhone, macbook laptop, worth to stream by apple airplay only for audio, but for Android mobile user, only bluetooth is option to connect. Other than this, do u know if u have android mobile to stream only audio, is it okay to listen without lossless, without hi-res audio quality by bluetooth? Plz say about this ? Connecting with bluetooth is just common to connect between android mobile and theatre bar 8 soundbar, but streaming only audio, without using Sony Bravia TV, just listening music, songs by android mobile to this soundbar 8 is normal audio quality ?
