I just bought myself a Dell Inspiron i3 5301 last month and I paid quite a decent amount of money for it. It is by FAR THE WORST computer I have ever come across in my life. DELL should be ashamed of stealing money from us, customers who work very hard for their money and have the hope of buying a computer we think is going to help in our lives. I personally WILL spread the word to EVERYONE I know and will tell them that when it comes to buying a computer, DELL is the worst brand EVER. I strongly encourage you guys who read this not to buy DELL systems. The do not have what it takes to be competitive anymore. They used to but, somewhere down the road they went cheap with the parts and the manufacture of their systems.

Try going to the BIOS (or UEFI) by booting up with F12. Look for a "Performance" setting and turn off the options to enable Speedstep Technology, C-State Control, and Turbo Boost. My Inspiron used to lock up about six times a day until I did that. and now it's fine. I think that allowing the UEFI to dynamically change the processor parameters causes a hardware glitch.

I have got a new dell inspiron, and faced freezing and stuttering straight out of the box. So i contacted dell technical support, and did everything the technical support asked me to do. The problem still persists. I went through online forums and found out dell laptops freezing is a common problem and it cannot be solved. I tried to contact a live agent and did all the instructions he asked me to do. Still dell inspiron stutters and freezes. So i went online and found out that dell inspiron laptops hanging is a common problem that existed for more than 6 years. Dell hasn't find out a solution for this problem. So i will ask everyone not to buy dell laptops like me. As any of the above steps or the live agent can help hang up or freezes as the dell inspiron is a broken model which cannot be fixed. Stay away from dell. Don't makr the mistake i did

For some reason the support assist is the one that’s freezing. Everytime I open it, it either freezes my laptop or it just restarts

Sadly I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 i3 7th gen that since new as been prety much usless .. or several years I have not used it because I have had other older PCs that still worked . Now I am forced to use it or junk it. This video gave me some new things to try...I have always bought Dell but this one out of the box was junk.

The random freezes are caused by the execution of an FMA3 instruction under "certain circumstances".

This is an Intel microcode bug that dates back to the Haswell and Broadwell micro-architectures.
It was supposed to have been fixed in Skylake, Comet Lake and Rocket Lake, but apparently has
not been fixed. Dell and Intel are aware of the problem but refuse to admit it in order to avoid a
large number of recalls and a possible class action lawsuit. Dell's Support Assist test suite
includes a test specifically designed to catch this problem. I have screen shots of my XPS
8940 (which shares processors and the motherboard with the Optiplex 7090) freezing
while running the FMA3 test.

Disabling C states, Hyper-Threading, SpeedStep and Thermal Shift in the BIOS lowers the
probability of the CPU freezing, but does not eliminate it completely -- and forces its owner
to use a crippled computer that does not meet its advertised specs, all the more so as the
XPS 8940 is marketed as a "gaming computer". Gaming my foot!

Time for a class action lawsuit. Anyone willing to join?

read all these reviews and only 1 or 2 said this helped, but didnt give any details. Alot of complaints here. My dell M4800 is crashing regularly even after fresh install of windows. But it is about 10 years old so maybe hardware problem. until a couple months ago it worked great these years.

PSA: if you own an XPS model, it’s probably because the battery has fried the cpu or is causing overheating. These computers have a “fake sleep feature” which they use to turn on at the absolute worst times (in a bag) to do updates, creating a hot environment. They have poor cooling.
