You may watch this video and just see it as a funny quote by Peter Griffin himself. But, there is much more to this than you may think. First of all, this quote technically proves Peter Griffin's self-awareness and intelligence regarding himself and how he is seen by others. The statement "I may be an idiot...but I am not an idiot" may at first appear to be a funny self-contradiction, but when we delve further into its true meaning, you will discover how clever a quote it is. So, to make things simple, let us first split this quote into two halves, separated by the 3 periods I put. "I may be an idiot" is self-explanatory: Peter introduces the fact the he is indeed, an idiot. But, the second part makes the whole phrase much more confusing....
