Honestly, if someone gave me a gym membership as a present as some slight, I'd actually give them the exact opposite reaction to what they'd be expecting. I'd act overjoyed, thanking them profusely, saying how excited I am to use all the amenities like the pool and the sauna, and how much money that "gift" will be saving me while watching the disappointment on their face.
