My mother is from a small village in Nong Khai. Went to Thailand in 2002 visiting my mothers family for the very first time. Beautiful area. We saw the Friendship bridge which connects Thailand to Laos.

Never fails to amaze me the level of devotion that the Thais (and other SE Asian countries) put into the artistry of their temples and shrines! That seven headed serpent is epic! Ahh the dip for the mango brings back to many memories! See you weren't keen but I definitely love it 😂

Hello Paddy. I love to watch your travel videos. Keep on, you are doing great. I recommend you to visit Wat Pa Phu Kon, Ban Kong, Na Yung District, Udon Thani, Thailand and Skywalk Wat Pha Tak Suea, also at the Mekong river. We went to the temple Wat Pa Phu Kon three years ago, visiting a friend in Nong Bua Lamphu. The temple lies way out on top of a hill in the jungle. We hope to go to Thailand again in January, but have to see if how things are going with the covid situation both in Europe and in Thailand. Greetings from Me Kao (Polar bear) in Norway. You can also find my travel videos on astveten on YouTube. I have been 5 times to Thailand, from 1 to 3 months each time, and I love it.

Not much in Nong Khai for touristy stuff ... but having dinner and drinks by the Mekong river at sunset is really nice. Especially during this time of the year.

Paddy didn't show or mentioned it but... for those who haven't been here since the last two years... they finished a really nice walking and biking path right along the river, from the white temple (where he took the boat out) all the way to Wat Mee Chai. Hopefully, it will eventually go all the way to underneath the Friendship bridge. That's a long nice path to jog, bike, skate and enjoy the river. Really enjoy that scenery 👌 👍

I have been to Knong Kai many time, One of the most impressive things there was traveling along the road that by the Mae Khong river to see and relax beautiful scenery of the river and Loas, this road can bring you see Vien tien across and find somewhere to stay there at a nice resort along the river.

I once bought a whole loaf of bread to feed some fish in Isan and then the son of my wife (8 years old) came and said: And me? What do I get? And I said: Well if you are hungry then let's go and find something good to eat for you. smile
I love your videos, you are an inspiration for me - and I hope that one day I can do drone videos as good as yours. (Say hello to sparky!) 😉
Oh and Mekong is sometimes quite dry ... maybe then they can walk to the rock.

In all of Thailand we use so many condiment to cut the sourness of unripe mangoes such as sugar, salt, chili flake, plum powder, dry shrimp, shrimp paste or even fermented fish sauce that use in somtum that you don’t like. Hahaha

You try to take the road from Nong Song Hong to Sangkhom District. You'll find incredible tree trimming that can tell a story along either side of the road.

Hi Paddy, I've been watching your videos from the start and have never missed one. The content and quality just gets better and better. I was just wondering along with many others if you are planning any more trips with "The Budgeteers" ?
I noticed on their home page that they are planning a Europe trip on a 1000 Euro's

My Danish Cdn friend lived in Nong Khai with his Thai wife, who was the wife of my then Thai GF, who lived in Dongwattana village near Ban Dung, Issan. I went golfing many times at nearby Victory GC with my beery buddies from Eddie's Bar in Ban Dung. Good times from 2010 to 2012.
Many of the Nong Khai Business people are actually Chinese who were kicked out of Hanoi in the 1960's. Those with vehicles drove them from Hanoi to Dien Bien Phu, thru Laos & into Thailand. My Danish friend bought Heineken Beer from one of these Chinese expats. He spoke very good English, as his 2 daughters were educated in Canada. One is a Doctor 7 the other is a Dentist in Ottawa ON. he goes to visit them every spring for a few months.
