How to Clean Silver Coins - Coin Restoration
First off, let me address the obvious... I know many of you have been told to never clean coins. But, keep in mind that removing gunk, debris, glue, tape and grime from a coins surface without rubbing and/or scratching is acceptable as long as you are very careful and ONLY use products that are designed to restore a coin.
That being said, I am a firm believer in NOT using any products myself (perhaps leave it up to the expert coin restorers) on ANY potentially valuable coins (such as key dates), and especially not on any copper coins that have turned brown after years of storage.
Disclaimers aside, in this video, I will show you how I apply MS70 to a relatively nice coin that has some unsightly PVC damage (being stored improperly in a plastic flip, an old album, or just due to other environmental issues).
Hopefully, you found this video fun to watch!
Thanks for watching!

On another video, you seemed to be re-dipping the cotton swab into the original container. If that is the case, with any chemical it is always better to pour a small amount into a small container.

Next, send it in to be graded. And then come back and tell us.

I clean all my good finds with 80 grit sand paper and an electric sander.

Thanks for the demonstration, Rob. I've been considering trying that on my dug silver from metal detecting. I've heard you, and others, speak of MS70 and am glad to see the proper use now!

If you don’t intend to grade or sell the coin, then this is fantastic.

I use Goddards silver dip . Been using it for over 40 years and it works perfect same process just dip it in the dip for 15 seconds and then rinse with water and pat dry presto.

Will the cleaning of the coin with the MS70 affect the possibility of grading the coin

rob, toluene is the best way to remove PVC from coins.. it may take a few minutes to a few hours, but also use it outside with a respirator. I know this due to an old coin dealer I knew ran the coin restoration process for pcgs in the 90s

Good video Brother. MS 70 is a cosmetic fix, not a repair. PCGS can detect the chemical properties using a Metalloid detector.

Beautiful, why not get them graded if they're full bell lines?

This or E-Z-EST?
Which is less "invasive"?

Does this work for spot treating coins such as staple rust edges?

DO NOT USE MS70 AFTER USING EZEST! Let me explain. I had a nice seated quarter that had some dirt spots on it. I thought I'd dip it in EZEST to get it off. It didn't take it off and I didn't want to rub it. So I thought maybe I can get it off by using a qtip and gently rub it w ms70. It instantly turned the coin brown and caused forced oxidation. I panicked and dipped it again in ezest and thankfully the brown and oxidation came off!!! Lesson learned!! Still has dirt spots but I'm good with it!

I've never seen this ms70 cleaner, I seen jewelry cleaner, but I never try to clean valuable coins, but I will look for that stuff for further uses

A couple of things, first coin doesn’t have FBL, and second and most important no matter what anyone tells you, apply nothing, ever to clean or restore coins!!
