Dude thank you so much for this video, am converting my wife's to a 1x and kept buying wrong chain ring but now I know what I need to do, and I finally ordered the correct ring.

You can hold the lockring tool in a bench vice and just spin the crank arm to loosen the lockring. Feels a bit safer with the chainring teeth.

I did the same conversion on my 2017 Rocky Mountain Vertex. Is nice that after the conversion the looks is like they have always be 1x as you dont leave empty holes as on a typical conversion

Hey - thank you so much for this video. I’m converting a 2017 Giant Talon to a 1x and wanted to save some money by keeping my crankset. Being in Australia, I couldn’t buy the E061 locally but was able to get it from the US (postage cost more than the tool!). Had trouble with the locking ring as at first it wouldn’t crack. Soaked it in WD40 for 5 mins and voila. Thanks again, couldn’t have done it without your vid. Be well. Cheers, Scott.

I did the same conversation on my old bike. I kept it as a 10 speed when. I first converted it. You loose some nice weight taking off that front mech and shifter.

Notice the square 3/8 or 1/2 drive hole in the lock ring tool? You can use a standard racket drive of the appropriate size.

Hey great vid, thanks, can I ask, I am planing to do the same thing to my 2x10 but I had a couple questions, 1st is about position of the front chain ring, I never used the max crossover between the front outer and back inner rings previously but it looks like it will place a lot of stress on the chain being stretched so far from right to left. By swapping out the 2x front rings for a 1x it looks like the main ring will be in the same position as the the old outer ring, is there a way to reposition the crank arm slightly closer into the frame to make the 1x ring more central to the back cassette (reducing the amount of stretch on the chain between the top and bottom gears)? Second question was about the gear ratio, I've only been able to get 38T front ring to replace the 42/27 which is bigger than I wanted (had been looking for a 34 or 36) and I don't really want to swap out the back cassette for an 11. I don't do a lot of steep riding so I wonder if a 38/36 on the back will give me enough gear for some modest hills?

Thanks for the video. Looking to do the same conversion. Can I keep the original 10 speed derailleur without any issues?

First of all, thank you for putting the time into making this video. I'm thinking of converting my 2x11 to a 1x11 and have the FSA Comet crankset. I have a doubt regarding the chain line alignment, I've seen somewhere that the chain should be aligned to the center of the cassette. Does this setup achieves that or is there a way to adjust the chainring to make it achieve that?

Could you please tell me the size of the screw and cap on the left side of this crank? I have one like it, I even bought it but the seller sent a screw that is on the side of the crown, where I only saw that it was different when it arrived from ali express (china) if you can help me I would appreciate it!

Thanks for the video. I tried using a 96 BCD ring to convert it before finding this video which didnt work. Luckily found this video and the right chainring online. Thank you. Any idea what the chainline measurement is after converting?
