I guess the Mangkukulam nowadays were referred to as the Babaylans in earlier pre-Spanish occupations. They are the shamans (mostly Females) tasked with conducting/ overseeing several rituals even magic and served under the Datus, Rajahs or Sultan during those eras.

Story Time:

This is how my Uncle died when he was Young during 2007, Around my Age. He has a feud with someone and was Hexed. It was by a Mambabarang, Basically Mambabarang is another type of Mangkukulam or Witch in Philippines they use Insects, One of my Aunts and his Friends doesnt believe but when they saw some Insects crawling from his skin and when he was checked up and nothing appeared it got their mind changed.

I also have a experience with Albularyo around 2015, I think it was around Grade 4, Mom took me to a Albularyo because i got sick randomly. Again just like Mangkukulam and Mambabarang they are another Type of Witch but they use their abilities for Healing, Counterblocking and Mostly Defenses. I didnt remember any of it but she saw something that i Hurt when she dropped some candle waxes on a Water and gave me something lol
