So are special edition books worth it? Is the new Wheel of Time Set any good? Heck if I know but lets talk about it.

I think special editions are only actually special if the story inside is actually special to the reader.

Alice in Wonderland is probably much cheaper than you imagined because it is out of copyright and they don't have to pay for the rights. All costs go to producing the book, and not buying the story.

I’ll never judge anyone for spending their money on an edition they think is worth it. You do you! I’ve done dumb moves in my past for sure lol but the thing that cracks me up about special editions is the art. Because growing up I remember thinking, “it has pictures, it’s probably a kids book”. And now as an adult, I want all the illustrations 😂 oh how the turntables…

Something I always appreciate about Folio is not just the art, which is consistently gorgeous, but the printing is immaculate. Best part? headers, footers, and sides of the page so you don't have to risk smudging that beautifully printed ink.

Also? Daniel? Are you stalking my Folio orders? I just ordered Dune Messiah and Frankenstein like less than a month ago.

Also, Dune. Because why have the epilogue without the damn main story?

A lot of those Alice illustrations are in the public domain, as is the text. That probably helps explain the relatively low price.

I love Folio. They're a great quality publisher, good binding, interesting covers, quality materials, and their selection tends to be quite good, though a tad eclectic. But the latter can be a plus for an omnivore like myself. I wish they were closer to Easton Press in terms of materials, the leather covers and moire end sheets are hard to beat. But I'm glad Folio Society exists and is active to this day.

I like that the slip case for Frankenstein is the Artic water and ice sheets. But I can understand why it can be confusing at a first glance… I had to look at it closely to work out what it was.

I managed to find the wheel of time paper back box set at a thrift shop for $40. Absolute steal

The Book of the New Sun is my favourite folio. Absolutely beautiful.

I recently bought the Folio's Dune and getting Dune Messiah next month! The cover is so mesmerising, it's my favourite book I own! Definitely their best work yet.

If you can ship the damaged books, I would not mind discussing buying them off you. I use damaged books for art projects and only use books not intentionally damaged

I find the outlining in folio books very interesting. They seem to have a lot of space on the outside of the pages to make sure pages are big enough for beautiful art. This creates the problem of having too much space for lettering, giving the solution of either filling the page up with more words or changing the size of the words. They do neither and make it look like an artistic choice. Now there's still enough pages to be worth the price they're asking, whilst not enlarging the lettering so you still feel like you're reading a sophisticated book, which is what Folio wants you to assocuate with them. Smart!

I think special editions are great! It’s an amazing way to support artists and gives the reader something truly special in their home. Every time I look at a special edition of my favorite book it brings me such joy. I love showing them off to friends and usually the artwork is very helpful in convincing them to read. It’s also a great way to support authors you love!

I have the Folio Society Howl's Moving Castle books and I love them, you can tell that they are high quality books and the art and slipcases are such nice touches.

I wish I were as excited by anything as Daniel is about maps on endpages.

Really wish a small press would be allowed to give WoT the limited edition treatment it deserves. Even if it was just Folio Society doing a non-LE, I’d take it. If they did an ASOIAF-quality run, itd be amazing.

I absolutely adore folio society books! They are such high quality and the paper is buttery soft. I have given them as presents and gotten them as presents. I have 9 folio society editions and I will say I think the most beautiful ones I have as The Once and Future King and Something Wicked This Way Comes, but all of my editions are gorgeous.

That Juniper edition of WoT is such a crazy price. The full set is spending at least double what new books cost from Amazon. The dust jackets for $225 is kind of nuts too. $15 per dust jacket is steep.

Turns out I have this foundation version, so weird.
I'm from Brazil, and we have a 3 in 1 thick book for foundation with exactly the same art. So cool!
It cost R$150, which in dollars is $31.
