During the 4 mins of "die meister der Herzen" in 2001, he was in the stands and watching bayern win the Bundesliga on the big telecom prompter, while celebrating the last four mins, thinking that schlanke had won it while the bayern match was not over. One of the best goalkeepers ever. I grew up watching him play (born in 98) and I became a goalkeeper in 08, and all I’m gonna say is, there was a massive change in the way that keeper coaches trained keepers after Neuer became mainstream. Keepers needed to be good with their feet and become proper sweeper keepers, he revolutionised the position. By the time 2010/11 rolled round and I’d been playing a few years, goalkeeper coaches changed it up; it wasn’t just shot stopping, being commanding in your box and having safe hands that was important anymore - you needed to sweep up and give an option to your defenders. I’m glad we got him, I look back at the 10 years I played in between the sticks and without Neuer and that particular style (which I thrived in, went from an average keeper in division 2 to a top keeper in division 1 in my local leagues), I doubt I’d of been half as good as I was in goal! The sweeper keeper roll suited outfielders turned goalies like myself MASSIVELY!! And for that influence, for me, I’ve changed my mind since the start of this, he is the goat goalie. Certainly the most influential that’s for sure

schalke fan here, to give some more context. neuer was a boy from the nordkurve, he was a fan since his childdays. in the 2008 yearbook of schalke he wrote that he would never join bayern. in 2009 after a win against bayern he parodied the kahn 2001 celebration when bayern snatched the meisterschaft from us, gaining hate from the bayern fanscene. during the transfer saga the bayern ultras were very vocal against a neuer signing (koan neuer).

schalke fans would have been very proud of him if he joined united back in the day. neuer basically said that he would never join bayern. and in the end he did just that. it was a transfer saga that went on for whele over a year. and when it was finally announced he had the guts to say, that out team manager recently informed him that bayern showed interest in him. he was activaly lying, just to somehow look good!?

so yeah, many schalke fans see him as a traitor. not so much anymore as in the early 2010s, because some grow to be proud of his archievments that a gelsenkirchener boy is considered the gk goat, but still, he shouldnt walk around gelsenkirchen alone

He won the DFB Pokal in his last season with Schalke and when they paraded through the street a guy came up to him, asked him for a shake hands and slapped him very nicely.

Which makes it even better when you make a FIFA 24, player career mode where you, as Neuer, feel slighted by Bayern, decide to retire as a goalie, become the manager of S04 in the 2. Bundesliga, claw your way up to the top league and do your best to dominate the league, to make amends to S04 but mainly give a big F you to Bayern.

Because money is everything
If he become maintain his good form, he must need money for him, his family but this amount of money can't afford shalky -04 and it's the bad thing for small team in football because you, me always support reputed team 😢
