Dave Davies - Death Of A Clown (1967)

David Russell Gordon Davies (born 3 February 1947) is an English singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is the lead guitarist and backing singer (occasionally singing lead) for English rock band the Kinks, which also features his elder brother Sir Ray Davies.

Strangely, this record had more effect on me than all the rest of the Kinks’ incredible oeuvre. It had a poignancy that struck me as heartbreaking and the female refrain was glorious. I was 9 at the time.

We had no TV in those days but the house was full of music. So much good music in the mid 60s, not many days pass without it getting played in the house or car👍

Classic record and an all
time fave of mine and a monster UK hit. Very good B side too.

Dave also had another solo single hit here in The UK “Susanna’s Still Alive” another good un. Not as good as this but still very good. “Lincoln County” followed this and again it was very good but didn’t trouble the UK Singles Charts. Yours in Kinks-and Dave’s solo slots as well. Great outfit and Ray was an inspiration. Chris 🎼
