i just absolutely flew through this book in 4 days, and also watched the movie. I gave the book 5 stars because it is something that actually sucked me in and I can see myself re-reading it multiple times. i had been looking for the book at thrift stores for years (it is hard for me to pay full price for anything) and finally found a copy in perfect shape last week. I am glad that i was finally able to read this, because it was amazing.

Well done on the breakdown! 👏 Rewatched the film and wanted to know about the book version because r/Horror on Reddit keeps talking about how the book is pretty good. Thanks for this!

I like to think you can look at it as a bit of a take on Eldritch/Lovecraftian horror but with plants. 🌿 Just with how much is unknown about the plants and how they are so intelligent and do crazy things that no other plants in real life would be able to do.

Definitely a pretty original story for plant horror in my opinion. I've only seen the film have not read the book but Im trying to track it down. I still enoyed it quite a bit.

Scott Smith's first novel A Simple Plan is not a horror novel, its more like a thriller but definitely worth reading.

I tried watching this film last night but had to skip over many of the body horror scenes. Let me tell you, as you get older physical pain and suffering becomes too real to watch for entertainment. Incidentally, I've heard some people suggest that David Cronenberg's "The Fly" remake can be seen as a metaphor for aging.

I watched the movie first and didn’t know until way later that there was also a book written. I really enjoyed both but I’m always a fan of books more. It is about this carnivorous plant but it does it in a way that’s not stupid or cartoonish it’s done in a way that’s believable and very scary which I enjoyed. I don’t think I’ve read a horror novel where a plant is the main enemy, the main threat. Definitely recommend it.

I haven't seen the movie all the way thru either that or it's been so long that I have forgotten I've seen it, but the book is a work of art, it's gruesome, reading it gave me anxiety, definitely one of my favorite reads.

Just guessing on reason fir character trait swaps in film . It could be playing to the traits to the actresses cast aka studio demanded be in the movie ?
Also not read A Simple Plan but really liked the movie and though not horror it is Directed by Sam Raimi .
In regard to that story every time the idea of finding a bag of money no matter circumstance every woman I know says they would give it to police, every guy is like hell no, even if they know criminals are looking for it . Look forward to that review .

Great comparison video !
