Goff being the best downfield passer is no joke. His 2017 & 2018 years in LA proved that. Look at the Chargers, Vikings and Chiefs games from 2018. What changed for him and the Rams was the offensive line upheaval and Todd Gurley's decline and departure. The Rams changed their offense and tactics to avoid sacks, going to a short play-action passing game based on timing and YAC in 2019 and 2020 with Woods, Kupp, Reynolds, Higbee & Everett. With this Lions offensive line and the variety of weapons on the team the deep ball routes are back. Also, the rush defense looks dominant. The upcoming Panthers game should be a terrific barometer if they are the real deal. Stuff the run and the sacks will come.

I think the answer is simple, Rush defense currently. Laporta can't be top TE with Kittle and Kelce around as it currently stands. Goff probably doesn't throw deep passes as often as other QBs so his rate will more often go up. Pass Rush is my opinion to early to tell

Goff led the league in 40 yard pass percentage last year.

LaPorta isn't the best TE in the NFL but I think he's 2 years away. I think I'd put him top 5 though. It's not all about stats, Hockenson has more catches but it's those short passes, LaPorta stretches the defense.

Right now Kelce is far and away the best but he's declining and LaPorta will only get better.

if you actually paid attention last year none of these are shocking, maybe LaPorta
