1 by 1 and side by side comparison of Active Sky Next, FS Global Real Weather and Opus FSX. Actual METAR from Weather Underground included. Textures by REX4 Texture Direct HD. Active Sky and FSGRW looks pretty similar, Opus not so much. What do you think?

ASN wins hands down, they use an algorithm that takes a GOES Satellite Photo download to place where the cloud coverage is, the transitioning is exceptionally smooth and that pesky problem with your aircraft getting "jolted" around above FL250 is non-existent with ASN. The wake turbulence function is also very interesting and it does work in multiplayer, albeit you may need to adjust settings appropriately.

How come that opus makes it rain at 0:40?

FSGRW has real upper level winds. So if turbulence was reported at 35000 in a particular area, you will feel it when you pass through that area.

ive tried asn for awhile but when i found out about opusfsx never went back. although i had to add some better textures for clouding.

Does everyone notice that OPUSFSX is the odd one out. Cause these are all taken at the same time. Or is it just me?

I've found ASN to be very accurate when providing weather Information for a particular area I'm flying over, I'm using the Steam version & I'm very happy with the software.

It seems it is just a matter of taste. Some people prefer blue, some prefer red, some prefer green. A comparison with real world conditions would be interesting although not totally fair because of FSX own limitations. What would be interesting would be an aerial view showing different weathers from different stations active.

An interesting comparison but static images are not enough to evaluate these addons. Dynamic views such as the crossing of a cloud layer or the transition from one weather zone to another are necessary to make an opinion. There are other programs that also give great results. For my part I use FSXWX freeware version.

Nice comparison video.  These products do not seem to accurately represent storm cloud formations - like those we can get here where the tops reach 40, 000-feet.  I've yet to see this depicted in FSX with any weather product.

I'm using OPUS right now because of its dynamic head feature, but it seems there are a few aircrafts coming out with a weather radar based on the ASN API. That is enough to sway me over.

You may think that this makes ASN look rubbish, but it agrees with the metar more than the rest.

I've compared ActiveSky Next to what I see in real life in the sky, and it looked exactly like what I saw in real life.  Whenever I fly, my clouds are in the right position and roughly the same shape (spot on when I check) and even color (may have been a coincidence that the color matched my cloud textures, complete with the bottom of the cloud dark and rainy half way down as it was in real life).  No experience with FS Global, but it looks like it can't be correct.  Opus FSX is an alternative and looks good, too.

What's best regarding the price tag and quality? I'm looking for one that has the best value but is also realistic.

Thinking about getting ASN for the weather engine but I would need to see about retaining the dynamic head feature of OPUS, don't think I could go back to the default cameras.

I have tried a couple of weather programs and Active Sky Next is miles ahead of anything that's out there. No you can't download it on a torrent site and no there is no crack for it, you have to buy it. Go to the website and get a 7 day free trial and your jaw will drop. It is probably the most amazing addon ever. OPUSFSX is a pile of crap compared to it. ASN's interface, options are amazing! Cloud placement is stunning. Turbulence ONLY when entering clouds not flying around them. Rain ONLY in or below clouds. Entering clouds produces zero visibility, not like other programs where you fly through a thunderstorm cloud in 1 second with a rotating 2d image. Flight plan includes a weather briefing etc. etc. etc. Simply amazing! Go try it!
