Honestly you can tell that they got more creative as the years went on in terms of ghost types. Starting with Phoebe they began having a little fun with ghost type as an aesthetic.

I remember my first time fighting the elite 4 in gen 1, after getting past Lorelei's Lapras and Dewgong Bruno was pretty easy, i then proceeded to get wiped by Agatha multiple times, in the nuzlocke i did a year or 2 ago i brought a level 100 Haunter because I couldn't trade it for a Gengar and wiped her entire team with it. Gen 1's elite 4 is pretty easy, Venasaur completely countered Bruno, Haunter countered Agatha, Dragonite countered Lance and Moltress fid most of the work against Blue, dont remember what i did for Lorelei though

Agreed. I had a harder time getting through Shauntal then the other three members of the Elite Four and N combined
