Splatoon 3 Gender Changes

What is one change to Splatoon 3's character customization that has already affected the Splatfests? Well in Splatoon 1 and 2, you started by choosing a boy or girl. But Splatoon 3's character customization does away with that, so gone are the days of becoming kings and queens in the Splatfests. Instead, you will receive the genderless title of Ruler when you reach the same level. Sadly, I wasn't able to become a Scissors Queen.

I saw a message during the premiere that said "If your girl is straight, then why did she pick scissors?"

It should be Monarch instead of ruler. Then it would keep the royalty aspect

I like being able to choose any hair style you'd like. I'd just like an option to choose your voice style from a few so it fit how you want your character to be.

I really love how you can mix and match hairstyles and leg wear regardless of gender now (I’m using a “boy” haircut for my female octoling!). That being said, I feel like Nintendo should give us the option to pick what we want to be referred to as. We should be able to pick if we want to be a king, a queen, or a ruler. It would be a really simple addition that would allow us players to customize our character even more!

I like the idea of using every hair style but I also want to be a paper queen/king aswell.

We should have both options to be a ruler and choosing every hairstyle but we should also be able to have options to choice if we wanna be a queen/king.

As a nonbinary teenager I absolutely love how videogames are becoming less gendered; it started with Animal Crossing New Horizons and isn’t specifically new to Splatoon.

Edit: I have started a war in the comments after just 12 minutes. Being trans is not a political stance, even if it almost always overlaps with supporting ideologies that want you to have rights.
Edit 2: 46 replies in 2 days. Why is existing so political if you’re not a cishet white neurotypical.

I still think YOU should be able to choose your gender/voice type as a seperate option

they’re still devided into boy and girl (inkling girl, inkling boy, octoling girl, octoling boy from left to right). they just aren’t labled as such. you can tell because they keep their gender specific features, like the females having wider hips and thicker legs than the males.

would have preferred if they kept the boy and girl lable while still being able to choose any haircut you want but i don’t mind the way it is now. might be confusing to some who wanted to make a girl that now suddenly has a male voice (and vice versa).

i think this is great, i wanted to play as a male octoling in splat 2 but i don't like the male octo's hair but in splat 3 i can play as a male octoling and choose any hair i want

Tbh in my opinion there should be an option where you can have gendered or genderless titles of your own choice no matter what gender you choose

Genders still exist, it’s just hairstyles aren’t gender locked. You can tell the difference from eyebrows, model, and voice.

Admittedly I kinda liked being called a King, it felt a little more personalised to my character, now it’s just generic ruler
