Get PERFECT Fitting Clothes By Hand | Just 2 EASY Stitches

A lot of guys want to have better fitting clothes, but not everyone has the money or the space for a sewing machine. In this video I'm going to show you how you can tailor your clothes by hand. It's really easy to do and you can do it in a short amount of time.

The first thing we need to talk about is the fact that the heart and soul of hand sewing isn't our right hand with our needle in it. It's actually our left hand. That's because it's our left hand that controls our stitch tension, or how tight or loose our stitch is going to be. For jeans you want a looser tension and for t-shirts and dress shirts you want a tighter tension.

Next is the fact that our left hand also acts as the feed dogs, or the part on our sewing machine that feed our fabric through as we go along. Now let's learn some stitches.

The first one is the running stitch. This is the stitch that you imagine hand tailoring to be. You just weave the needle and thread back and forth through the fabric. Don't use this stitch though, it isn't strong at all.

The one we want to use is the back stitch. It's where you sew forward, and then loop your thread back through the previous stitch locking it in. That's going to make it super strong and great for tailoring jeans and chinos by hand.

Lastly, we want to make a zigzag stitch by hand. When you tailor anything you want to cut off the extra fabric, and you're going to want to finish that raw edge using a zigzag stitch so it doesn't fray. Go from front to back with your thread, and then up and at a slight angle while looping it through the top creating a line as you go along. Boom now you know how to tailor all your baggy clothes by hand!

Have been meaning to learn to hand sew for years. Bought a dirt cheap kit yesterday and a yard of fabric. Going to try to spend a dozen or so hours just grinding thru keeping lines straight and uniform before I dive into my actual dress shirts. I'll report back next week. I've been watching your videos for a while now, and man, I finally the motivation to dig up my wife's sewing kit that she has never used and actually fix some shirts (and onesies) that needed it. IM SO HAPPY I JUST FOUND THIS CHANNEL!! I make things from paracord by hand tying/hand crochet. I want to make my own shirts and pants cause im tired of paying so much for thungs that dont fit as kong as they used to. I picked up a leather shoe repair manual sewing machine, but I think I need a different needle to get it to work right.

So anyway. This vid is going to help me make first a t shirt from 1680D ballistic nylon. I want a waterproof over shirt. So I'm gonna start small.

Being 5"6 with an athletic build basicly means nothing fits me below the shoulders properly for tops and below the waist on bottoms so these videos are a huge help

Hey SD...I've been following you for quite sometime. I tailored most of my clothes...t shirts, polos, dress shirts, tux shirt, chinos and jeans.
I am motorcycle riding in the Distinguished Gentleman's ride tomorrow, a charity ride for mens health. I decided to make a pair of dress pants into knickers (careful with that word 😬) sometimes called plus fours. I had to shorten the pants by 9 inches to just below the knee and insert an elastic band in the hem tunnel. They turned out great according to my mom and female friends who sew.
