I do hope that military entrance testing will serve as a model in pertinent aspects. Competence in an initial standard education is not something to be considered 'presumed'. It ought to be promoted by parental assertion to policy maker that assessment, teaching staff, and funding over timeline.

Not crazy about this guy. "Can NAEP stay focused on academic achievement when many educators are preoccupied with outcomes such as equity diversity and citizenship? I hope so." Of course you hope so, I'd rather have thoughtful kids that care about equity and value diversity than kids who can read and add. Literacy didn't stop the Vietnam war, equity would have. Numeracy didn't stop the Nazi Germany, a love of diversity would have. Luckily though we don't have to choose, kids can read and also learn about equity.
