This man Ben Zander is music itself. He's made of music, for sure. All his cells are powered by music. Amazing. Nno words to describe how he interprets and understands music. Woooow.

This series of videos by Maestro Zander should be required viewing for any performance major. His insight and motivation are unparalleled.

I'm just a Classical music listener (and an electric bass player) but there's so much I learnt from this...I took away an experience from the whole session! Love it and Yes, TED talk brought me here :)

After 40+ years of trying to be a mini Benjamin Zander with my own students, I am still impressed and informed anew by every masterclass the maestro gives.
There is an important question that arises, though, in my experience, and that is: How much will students absorb the enlightenment from Mr. Zander's or other teachers' transformational, inspirational lessons and become more expressive musical interpreters as they continue to develop.
Without the guidance and prodding from a teacher, will students still bring imagination and character to their performances when left on their own? My experience has been mixed, but I was often disappointed that when I was no longer there to exhort and cajole, students reverted to dryer, less expressive playing.
I had a great teacher who would stop me after 4-8 measures and say, somewhat disgustedly, "use your imagination!" He always seemed okay with what I imagined in response.
It would be interesting to see how students would react if they were told that in a masterclass by Mr. Zander. I suspect the public nature of the class might inhibit their willingness to respond intuitively as well as they would in a private lesson.

To what extent can we teach or coach a student to become a more expressive musician?

Also he's the funniest man when he tries to stimulate and motivate ppl to play with their hearts andn soul. "Imagine this is your last piece, the last time you will play ... there will be a car crash soon after you leave this room... So play as beautifully and dramatically as you can " Huahuaa

Adore Ben Zander, ALTHOUGH I'm not a musician. I'm an art historian, but his lessons really ARE for life.

Can we have the name of the payers please? Might be interesting to follow them. Also, can anybody tell the name of the pieces sung please? I don't think they were clearly mentioned in the video

Ah, finally... the beginning!

For a couple of 2012 prequels from London Master Classes

As they say later:

How long before Dina (Vainshtein) makes her début?
