Walnut Creek Public Art staff is happy to announce the return of Fountain Head following its removal for conservation in March 2024. The iconic sculpture by Seyed Alavi was first fabricated and installed in 2012 and, after many years of exposure to the elements, the surface showed signs of fading and water damage, causing the surface paint to bubble. Fountain Head required a complete dry out, which included baking in an oven, before it could withstand the process of undergoing an in-depth restoration that included cleaning, sealing, sanding, and painting. The conservationist painted Fountain Head with multiple layers of primer and industrial-strength paint which contains flecks of metal that allow for a sunlit sparkle that can be seen in person, in addition to several clear coats to protect the work so that it may be enjoyed for years to come.
