Make a ● Simple Bottle Mousetrap ( that works ! )

A mousetrap you can make yourself all from recyclables! It's humane because it's capture and release. Easy to build, easy to bait, easy to release and best of all it's humane and there's no springs or levers to wind up or load. The mouse cannot escape. Mice are not harmed in any way during capture or release. Mice can be captured, released and let go calmly and easily. A 2L coke bottle and a few other common items is all you'll need for this mousetrap.

This design is so elegant, efficient, and simple. And the approach you show in building it makes sure all the tolerances come out just right. Very nice.

When the mouse makes a buzzing noise I think it is grinding its teeth, or bruxing. At least that's what rats sound like when they brux, I notice mine does it when hes really happy or frustrated. Not sure if mice are the same though

I've never seen DIY videos done with such good cinematography. Nice one Chris.

It works great. I only had a small 500 ml coke bottle and I used a aaa battery instead of a pen. Thanks for the idea. You saved his life.

I don’t like mice but I don’t want to see them get hurt so this was nice

I made this trap a few months ago and just caught my 4th mouse

some tips:
keep the bait towards the top
if you catch a mouse don’t clean the bottle out or touch it very much, the familiar smell does familiar smell things - shake the poopy bait back towards the top before you set it again
smear a thin layer of peanut butter over the mouth of the lid

Gotta love how you use gravity to close up those holes -- "very creative."

Well shoot! I don't have a coca-cola bottle :(.
All I have is a pepsi bottle.
Guess I'm out of luck then.
/sigh :(

I made one two days ago and have caught two already. They are now living happily in the log store.

I think mice are cool the way they can fit into tight spaces like that

Mouse says... Oh shite I'm trapped in this bottle. Nevermind, I must clean my tail as that is priority....

I always hated those mousetraps that snap, so I like this one WAY better, it's so nice and you can see the mouse and set it free. I love it!

First trap I've ever built. I got 4 mice so far tonight (1 at a time, catch and release) and its just now about time for bed. Might be 5 by tomorrow

Dont know how many I have. Thought 1 or 2, but I was very wrong. Got at least 1 to go.

Awesome trap! Thanks! I would recommend taping the pen to the bottle to avoid heat warping. I used metal ducting tape. Strong and thin.

Also hot glue hot glue sticks to bottle caps over pen to avoid them knocking the bottle loose. They did that 2 or 3 times tonight before I modified it. Now it's perfect.

I'm using a wyze came to watch from upstairs. Night vision ftw. :)

Update: got 5 before I went to bed at 1am. Set it up around 5pm. Much of that was catching 1 at a time, releasing in the field down the street, reserting the trap, and fixing and modifying the trap as they were able to escape until I made changes.

My father caught 2 more by the time I woke up this morning. Lol

This trap is amazing.
