The Subaru BRZ has a cult following all of its own, and that's despite sharing more than just a few parts with the immensely popular Toyota 86 / GR86.

The formula for this second-generation version of the BRZ remains the same: engine up the front, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 seating and plenty of fun for the driver. But with a more powerful (but still not turbocharged!) Boxer engine, and a reworked chassis designed to make it feel less snappy and more safe on the road, is it a true spiritual successor to the first BRZ coupe?

Tom White attended the launch event for the 2022 BRZ, where he got to sample it back to back with the first-gen model. He reckons there's plenty to like about this new-gen model - not just in terms of the way it drives, but also the technology on offer, which has taken a big step up since the earlier version, but also in terms of safety gear, as well.

My dream car for driving around the city and suburbs. Better torque curve, fatter atmo engine probably more reliable than turbo models and cheaper to maintain, perfect amount of grunt for getting around on the streets and the motorway; would give an SS Commodore a run for its money at the lights. Love the styling too. Spare tyre looks a bit ridiculous though lol, that and the rear seats are guaranteed to make blokes' wives roll their eyes haha

Randomly stumbled across this video from Canada as I just picked one up. The price was the biggest shock. This car is about $10, 000 less here, staring just in under $30, 000, and CAD and AUD are about on par. Crazy.

WV Manuals are better, but why do the sell next to nothing in them? The golf sell close to 100% in auto and DSG transmissions.
