Muar or Bandar Maharani is a historical town and the capital of Muar District in Johor, Malaysia.

It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malaysia to be visited and explored for its food, especially “elephant” coffee and historical prewar buildings.

It was recently declared as the royal town of Johor by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and is the fourth largest city after Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat and Kluang in Johor. It is the main and biggest town of the bigger entity region or area of the same name, Muar which is sub-divided into the Muar district and the new Tangkak district, which was upgraded into a full-fledged district from the Tangkak sub-district earlier.

Muar district as the only district covering the whole area formerly borders Malacca in the northern part. Upon the upgrading of Tangkak (formerly Ledang) district, the Muar district now covers only the area south of Sungai Muar, whilst the northern area beyond the river is in within Tangkak district.

Muar is one of the cleanest cities in South East Asia, being awarded with Asean Clean Tourist City Standard Award 2017.

Muar district formerly covers 2346.12 km2, with a population of nearly 330,000. The town of Muar is located at the mouth of Muar River.

The flat terrain of Muar's geographical ground and areas has enable the extensive use of bicycle and tricycle vehicles as the main and major mode of transportation in Muar in the early days.

This believe to be the main factor and reason Muar was once the town with the most bicycles and the only town that requires valid license issued by the town council to own and use a bicycle in the country.

Muar is internationally well known as the hub of the furniture industry of Malaysia. Industrial estates within Muar district are located at Tanjung Agas, Bukit Bakri, Jorak, Parit Bakar, Pagoh and Tangkak.

There are notably three big factories of multinational companies, i.e. STMicroelectronics, Micron Technology and Pioneer Corporation at Tanjung Agas.

The town is robust of business and trading activities, with many old traditional Chinese shops offering variety of products at reasonable and attractive prices.

Muar agriculture is mainly made up of the major crops of rubber and oil palm beside some coconut, cocoa, durian, rambutan, duku, mangosteen, banana, papaya, pineapple, dragon fruit, vegetables and livestock, poultry and fish farming.

Fishing is the major economy of some fishing villages like Parit Jawa, Parit Raja, Parit Tiram, and Kesang. There are many cafes that are being open in Muar around the Bakri area to attract tourists and for local enjoyment.

Muar ni kekurangan dia adalah public transport. Stesen bas dah usang and sesak. Jalan kat bandar pun jammed manjang. Harap nanti ada penambahbaikan bila HSR siap nanti.

Tahun 2022, Saya dpt sambung bljr kat eduhub pagoh, tulah first time lawat bndr muo ni. sbb study situ, bnyk kali jugak la gi muar ni naik bas muafakat tu. Harapnya tmbh lah mall kat situ at least ada wayang😅, kalo x biasanya gi melaka.Ada lagi 2 tahun setengah study kat pagoh, harapnya dptlah teroka muo, bp, tangkak dan bndr² kecik kat johor. Sbb saya asal selangor, johor ni mmng jarang saya datang.

Muar nampak ketinggalan berbanding Batu Pahat, Kluang & Kulai. Even Segamat pon ada nampak perubahan. Harap2 projek Maharani Gateway nanti dapatla ubah Muar ni. Baca berita, Scientex pon ada ada beli tanah, nak buat new township di Muar.

Best jadi org Muo bandor tak sibuk tak kisahlah takde bangunan tinggi dan x moden tp semua ada nk ikan fresh ada kat Pt Jawa beli ulam2an ada kt Pasartani pendekata semuanya ada klu nk shopping bole pegi Melaka atau BP bukan jauh sgt pun. Klu duduk kt kampong lg lah best lebih2 lg yg ada tanah sikit bole bercucuk tanam pokok buah2an, sayur2an dan ulam2an syok betul. Wlwpun duduk dikampong bekalan elektrik dan air takde masalah dan sampah pun terurus dgn baik oleh pihak SWM rumah pun bersih fikiran tenang badan sihat keluo peluh tiap2 hari dapat pijak atas tanah dgn berkebun dan dpt juga sikit2 bela ayam kampong utk makan sendiri. Perbelanjaan sara hidup taklah tinggi sgt sedang2 gitu tapi dpt menikmati makanan2 yg sedap2 dan hidup yg tenang nk pegi bandor xde jem santai2 dh sampai nk cari makanan org2 kampong pun senang nk bersenam pagi2 kt Tanjung pun senang klu musim buah2an melambak2 dan musin durian pun murah. Lagi satu sejarah bandor Muo tentang mantan2 Menteri Besar Johor yg kebanyakannya asal org Muo dan jangan lupa juga Muo byk melahirkan cendiakawan2 terulung buat negara ku tercinta. Takpelah apa org yg nk kata buruknya Muo tp buat diriku Muo is the best dan meninggalkan memori manis buat diriku ditanah tempatku dilahirkan.
