I just wanted to share with you a solution that worked FOR ME.

After 3 days of being unable to create a Microsoft account on my Nokia Lumia 925 and scratching my head over the "Can't connect" error, I was about to return it to the store. I honestly tried every solution out there to no avail.

But when I tried to add the home address for one of my contacts, I noticed that WP offered me to dial the numbers first. But in my country, the NAME of the street goes first. So I figured that the app communicating with Microsoft servers might be using the US date/time format as well. Namely, MM/DD/YYYY instead of DD/MM/YYYY.

So I went to "Settings - language + region" and changed the regional format to "US (English)". Then I restarted my phone and tried to create that bloody account again. And, voila, it worked like a charm!

Btw, you don't have to change the phone language or your country/region. Just the regional format. Hope this helps.

brilliant.   I've spent hours trying to fix this.  Even spent 2 hours on chat with the phone support with now succuess.  Only additional thing I needed in addition to this advice was to restart the phone after resetting the date.

yes I did it!after three days of trying to sign in..finally I fix it.all I did was I set it in format factory..then everything refresh and start download application

Nice one, this fixed getting access to my one Live account, yet the problem persisted on accessing my Hotmail account. I fixed that by creating another google account and linking that to the hotmail account as linked email addresses. There is now a tile again on my phone main page that has the gmail logo, but is linked to the hotmail address and emails are again synced!!

It's crazy having to fix it this way, but I have very bad experiences going through the microsoft support system.
