Ithaca, New York, is the second most expensive small city to rent a one-bedroom apartment in the United States. That is according to a new data analysis from a rental analytics firm named Dwelssey. Their list puts Ithaca just below Santa Barbara, California, and lists Ithaca's average housing to be $2,003 a month for a one-bedroom unit. My rent was raised $200 in two years in Ithaca. Can no longer afford the rent, can’t afford to move. I’m trapped.

Lansing West Apartments.

My biggest mistake was coming to Ithaca after after I retired. When I arrived in Ithaca I could afford to order out a pizza or go out for dinner a few times a month. Now after 5 years of living here with steep rent increases, I’m back to eating pasta and rice every day like when I was a student.
