I think a lot of you are missing my point about the Zelph thing. My issue was not that they were kind to them, I said that was good, I’ve advocated for that many times. My issue wasn’t that they went slowly with the conversation. My issues were: 1) it didn’t have to be on camera because at this point it wasn’t showing growth, it was just promoting bigots. 2) it was marketed in an offensive way because I and others don’t need to see cutesy photos of bigots who just days ago were laughing about how they’ll never change their mind or apologise now acting like kids while being told she’s super intelligent and kind and I’m supposed to just be ok with that? 3) again, maybe don’t call Bethany an angel when she’s still an active transphobe?

It’s ok for conversations like this to happen off camera. With where Bethany’s views currently are, it was offensive for Zelph to promote her the way they did. I won’t change my view on that.

Like I say, I’m not mad at them, I understand why they made that mistake, I’m not holding anything against them, and I still agree with their reasoning behind doing it. I’ll just never agree with calling Bethany an intellectually curious angel while she’s posting transphobic content and laughing about never apologising to the people she’s hurt.

Edit: because people seem to be missing this too. I don’t need to even 50% agree with the people I’m friends on everything but I do need them to respect basic human rights. What happened was she was way more vocal about being anti-non-binary people and a trans-medicalist that I realised when I first started watching her videos and when we first talked. This wasn’t just ‘oh we disagree on some stuff’ like I first thought, it was ‘oh turns out she is against the very existence of a large number of people’ - that’s where I draw the line. Not just ‘oh look we voted for different parties’ or ‘oh look we disagree on how to tax people’ or something minor like that but ‘oh look, she’s actively campaigning to have the rights of transpeople who haven’t had surgery taken away’. No one is saying match 1/1, no one is saying my way is the only way to think, no one is saying don’t speak to people even remotely different to you, I’m saying I’d rather no hang around with and promote people who are actively and knowingly causing harm to large groups of people. I thought that was obvious. How is that controversial?

I’m honestly sick of the number of people in my comments section over the last few months asking excuses for rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, homophobia, transphobia, racism, child abuse - if you’re going to defend those views / actions, you can leave. It’s mentally exhausting seeing such disgusting, hateful comments and people wonder why I’ve finally run out of patience with people like Bethany?!

I’ve given people nothing but the benefit of the doubt for years and for years they keep proving me wrong and hurting more and more people and I’m just tired of it all.

Im so tired of Bethany and her sister writing books about issues, they havent researched. Will she also pivot from transphobia a few years from now, just like she pivoted from strict purity culture, without acknowledging the harm she causes to her audience by leading them astray?!

I personally really liked Zelph on the Shelf’s video and thought they might be really helpful for fans of Bethany’s videos to see that the people that they think of as sinners are really kind, funny, and non judgemental. I think it’s super counterproductive to come into a conversation from a place of condescension because it’s really easy to tell when you’re only trying to change someone.
Ultimately, the best thing that can happen is for Girl Defined and their audience to stop spreading harm, and I think videos like Zelph on the Shelf’s are more likely to break through to them than ones that make them feel like people outside their bubble are ‘other’ and therefore closed off.

Bethany calling any portion of this a "course" is maddening. 🥴 A course provides education and instruction. Her sex "course" is a conversation, a 2-3 part podcast series. Having a sprinkle or 2 of information bits amongst a conversation does not constitute education or instruction. And of course to have the audacity to charge that amount of money to listen to a conversation...it would be nice to one day see legislation passed that regulates the whole "course" thing in general. It seems like most influencer "courses" are a scam because they're really just people charging stupid amounts of money to talk at you but giving little to no instruction. It's wrong.

The way they throw around having a porn addiction is so aggravating. It’s like they watched porn a few times on a constant basis and now that means they are addicts. I also hate the way they dance around just saying we need sex education!!! They will say all of this while saying it’s a sin to learn any of this before you’re married.

disappointing to hear that about the zelph collab because I'd had really high hopes and hadn't gotten around to it yet. as someone who is transmasculine and whose ability to live and thrive in the US is being put on the line by ppl like Bethany, i have always thought Sam and Tanner would be the perfect people to kindly but firmly encourage Bethany to interrogate her views. I even donated a couple $s leading up to the collab specifically bc I wanted it to happen. idk I really wish Bethy would be as decent as I hope in my heart she can be and I felt they were here best shot. i forgot the money is in transphobia these days
