Toyota has refreshed its 2025 Corolla, a long-time favorite among compact cars in the United States. This new version brings several exciting updates, including more power, advanced features, and a special edition model, all while maintaining its title as the most affordable hybrid on the U.S. market.

One of the highlights of the 2025 Corolla lineup is the introduction of the FX Special Edition, which sits alongside the LE, SE, and XSE trims. Designed with a sporty edge, the FX stands out with unique styling and performance tweaks. The Special Edition draws inspiration from the 1987 Corolla FX16, featuring a bold black roof, rear spoiler, and satin black alloy wheels. Inside, the Moonstone sport seats are contrasted with orange stitching, adding a dynamic flair to the interior.

Toyota has made some significant technology upgrades as well. The new Corolla now includes a 4.2-inch instrument cluster, multiple USB-C charging ports, and the Toyota Audio Multimedia system, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety features have also been enhanced, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 now standard across the range. This suite includes helpful features like Lane Departure Assist with Steering Assist and Proactive Driving Assist, making the ride smoother and safer.

Under the hood, the Corolla is powered by a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine, delivering 169 horsepower to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission. Performance and handling have been optimized with a tuned McPherson strut front suspension and optional multi-link rear suspension, providing a more comfortable driving experience.

Starting at $22,175 for the base LE trim, the 2025 Toyota Corolla remains budget-friendly. The new FX Special Edition starts at $26,500, while the top-tier XSE is priced at $27,890, offering various options for every type of driver.

There is nothing exciting about a car with a CVT. Toyota really missed an opportunity to make the FX a proper affordable hot hatchback to what the original 1987-1989 FX16 was.
It needed to include a manual transmission option and tweaks to the drivetrain to make it quicker. The original FX16 had a close ratio manual transmission.
