The song is currently going viral in Korea for the word play and choreo. JYP’s stock has also risen by 7% since they’ve been announced. I think it’s going pretty well right now

kick flip is a cute name for a kpop group. i am so over the abbreviations and strange names. gonna check out their debut

Considering how 1. JYPE debuts boy groups at the same frequency as YGE debuts girls groups aka infrequently and 2. how JYPE doesn't aim for a company sound, focusing more on having a completely different niche for each one of their groups, it's going to be interesting to see and discuss KickFlip's trajectory in the music & concept department

The group was going to debut after the program LOUD 3 years ago, although some of the fans have still been with the boys, the hype that they could have had at that time had disappeared.
Therefore, a good way to bring back the news and introduce the boys has been with this song and from what it has been doing so far, it has been quite effective since it has achieved its objective.

i love a good pre-debut! i feel like part of the charm of kiss of life's debut was getting introduced/reintroduced to each of them and getting a sense of not only how they work as a unit but as well as their own individual strengths as idols. i don't think it always works however. i think the smrookie predebut videos are more difficult to watch in retrospect knowing that some of them would not go on to debut.

I wonder what the process of choosing the pre-debut vs the actual debut looks like

i liked umm great! def reminiscent of nct with some skz/trendy bg sound. i liked amaru's rap enough to check out the member intro videos and profiles. what jype lacks in concept development is made up for in its idols' talent/teamwork for me, so i'm definitely looking forward to seeing what kickflip gets up to :)

I think the position currently where this company is at I feel like they need to sit down and think about how they want to handle their groups because I feel like a lot of the groups that they have need to be taken care of concept wise or have more development to their concept. Or in general focus on how they treat their groups overall.

I feel like the short song epidemic that has hit K-pop might work out for a pre-release for a debut. I think it intrigues the listeners. This worked well for bad villain in my opinion. To me when they posted those two short songs it gave me a hint of what their sound would be but also how it would look like with all the members. But it left enough mystery for me to come back and check out their debut. I think the sad part about those two short songs that they had released is the fact that if that was the snippet that was given to us but then during the debut it was revealed that there was actually more to the song and it was longer I think I would have appreciated that more but I still enjoyed what I got. But going back to my main point I feel like a short song might be very effective for a new group because it can spark talk but also foreshadow what to expect and their approach to lyricism.

kickflip is under division3, I think the prerealse was a very smart move, it already got 12m views, Doug well on yt korea chart, I've seen a lot of positive reception from non fans, talking about then bringing back fun music, also I feel like people became hesitant to tune into a debut cause they don't know their style and skills (even tho 4/7 were already known), I think umm great did a great job with showcasing the members (esp the new ones) and teasing their skills but not showing off too much yet (like we know amaru has amazing vocals and kyehoons rap is insane from the survival show), like imo umm great focused more on introducing the group than having and I think they're saving like more insane skill parts for the debut (a leak of the tt has an amazing high note), also for the album I have high hopes, they have used the instrumentals as background music for their introduction videos and they sound so good already, I really hope they push the skater concept hard since that's their name

I agree with you. I think it can be a good marketing strategy, if did well. And I hope it works for Kickflip, which I'm currently looking foward for them! The music is fun, simple, and good to hear when you want a boost of energy or just dance. The boys are very charismatic and deliver the concept of free-minded, skater boys really well. Hope they do good in the near future. That's my opnion, and great video of yours!

it's a nice predebut track i think! nothing offensive, though one of the visual direction for the albums _does_ remind me of riize's memories-get a guitar era. i also agree with your concern over their concept development, because it'll be a shame if they end up having an underdeveloped identity after waiting to debut for almost 3-4 years

KickFlip is in Division 3, the same division that handle Twice and Park Jinyoung

The concept development is definitely something that i worried about the most, because the fact that their name is kickflip make me thing that this group would have something to do with the skateboard culture but what can you do with that for at least 7 years yk?

Another thing, the members have semi control over their music, so I assume when they establish themselves, they’ll have full control over their concept

As a "music-listener" kpop fan who is really into CDs and purchasing music in general, I kind of like how pre-releases serve as something of a test of patience and force us to reconcile with the instant accessibility to music that we're given in the streaming era. Though I'm sure the companies who do them don't intend them to be taken that way...

i have been out of "stanning" and the idol content for a while now but this... i watched loud back in the day and this reawakened my obsession with keiju. that little dude is just too charismatic, i gotta believe he'll do big things. so for me it hit bullseye, introduced them through a nice chill song that left me wanting to see more. i really do hope they can get an identity of their own and don't just stay in this soup of current trends, but honestly i gotta admit as long as it's listenable i'll join in for the loud boys

this song is such a bop, and someone tapped into both the idol and music sides of kpop, im hyped cuz i get to interact with idol content, but also peeved cuz i spent 20 minutes looking for this song on spotify (someone's probably reposted it to soundcloud by now but me and that app arent on good terms LMAOO)

That was so cute!! I watched your video before checking out theirs and think you nailed it on all accounts. The video was so fun and light-hearted, as you mentioned, and the final shot at the end where the center tilts a member's head the other direction made me laugh IRL. I just hate when people don't put songs on Spotify at the same time as YouTube, though! Like tf, am I really gonna put an alarm in my phone to add this to my playlist in two weeks? I guess so

i just hope that with the success of this release, they continue it with a debut that would do them justice! everyone knows their skills from loud and from umm great, but it worries me that they may end up having the nmixx predebut release issues of high expectations due to amazing pre-debut content... and being given a mid/bad debut song and having to redeem themselves (i like o.o and tank, but it wasnt friendly at all for consumers... not until dice/lmlt)
