The Procnias tricarunculatus is one of the 4 species of bellbirds that exist in the world. Its distribution extends from Honduras to Panama. In Costa Rica there are at least three populations, one of them in the Monteverde region, specifically in the Bellbird Biological Corridor.

Ricardo Guindon knows the bellbird situation in Costa Rica since his early days, when his dad cofund the Monteverde Reserve alongside other biologists that encounter a breathtaking amount of biodiversity. Years later, the Bellbird Biological Corridor was created with the efforts of the Tropical Science Center and other organizations, to prevent the deforestation and biodiversity loss of this magnificent corridor in Costa Rica.
