Retailers accused of price gouging amid coronavirus outbreak

Cleaning and sanitizing supplies are vanishing from store shelves amid the coronavirus fears, and some retailers are vastly increasing prices of goods. CBS News consumer investigative correspondent Anna Werner joined CBSN AM with more.

Hi, I'm from the UK (work for the NHS). It is interesting that the government is complaining of price gouging, but they are ok with drug companies charging extortionate prices for medicines for sick people, even though many of those medicines are actually very cheap.

This is exactly the time to raise prices. When demand outstrips supply then prices should rise to find an equilibrium. If people stopped panicking the prices would fall like a rock.

It's like Black Friday, ...they say stay home if you don't want to get stampeded by the greed of the consumer, but this time it's the greed of the corporation that's in question.   Yesterday my mom, whom doesn't normally buy water at the store in gallons, was quite happy to tell me the "deal" she had received at her local Kroger.  While Target is only allowing 2 gallons per customer, the price in the past has always been around .89 to .99 cents a gallon, so you can understand how upset I was when I discovered the "deal" from Kroger's of $11 for 3 gallon's of water.   If I may quote Ronald Reagan, _"May I suggest there is no left or right, only an up and a down!"_   There are two types of people in this world, those whose feet walk towards righteousness, and those whose feet run to wickedness, and under these two categories, all other categories exist.

It's times like these that show whose feet are going in what direction!
