I wish I had a parent who was interested in this stuff. I’ve been waiting for a while to start reenacting, and I’m not quite there yet. Thanks for the medical advice, it’ll probably be my first impression once I really get into it. I don’t have a preference about time period, I want to reenact stuff from the Revolutionary War to modern wars, like Vietnam and such. Thank you again for the advice. Godspeed.

I’m fourteen and I’m allowed to stay around the camp, I can not go into battle though 😂

Definitely depends on the group, event, and yourself outside of your age. For instance, I've always been big for my age, and when I was younger at the age of 14 I looked, sounded, and acted like an adult. Therefore, with recommendations from Commanding Officers, I was easily wavered to handle a firearm with blanks and participate in certain events.

But, don't get disappointed if you're still too young. Living History is always amazing and fun, being able to ride around in a Willies Jeep as a passenger and handle other equipment is also very fun. Plus, getting used to these larger events and how they are conducted behind the scenes is always great to have for future reference is great.

So, if you look older for your age, can act very mature and competent, you'll probably be able to get into some battles.

simplified:
Big events: 18 w/ weapon | 16 w/ parent and being medic/ammo guy
Small events: 18 w/ weapon | 16 to be in battle | any age w/ parent

Here in Bulgaria it is similar. By law you have to be 18 to handle firearms (even blank firing), so in the bigger re-enactments you have to be that to participate, however if you are a bigger 16 or 17 year old you can get away as a medic (you can't be an ammo bearer since you handle munitions). It is the same as the smaller events law wise, however police don't bother to check so thoroughly, and what I've done is get dressed as a medic, and when the check is complete, change into a combat role rifle and all.

Been doing this since the 1980s, and it's as simple as this. Your age can be DIRECTLY PROPORTIONATE to how awesome your dad's toys are. If he's a unit CO, few are going to are if you're a new teen. If he owns the units crew/served auto weapons or soft skin vehicle, even younger. If he owns an armored vehicle, you can be toddler, because NOBODY is going to complain. Tank owners can do anything

I'm tall for a 13 year old and passed as fourteen. I brought my freind and his dad along and I got to be a medic. I'm allowed to fight when I'm 15 and there's a D-Day reenactment on my 15th birthday. I am SO going!!

Thank you for this video. I’m a Filipino who loves military history and always wanted to be in a re-enactment. However I will say getting the equipment and gear will be difficult because the site I got to is out of stock 😥

just LARP that you were a soldier who lied about your age- very common thing to do at the time

I just recently found your channel and this really got me wanting to get into reenactions. The flop is, there aren't any WW2 reenaction groups as far as I've looked. The other flop is getting the uniform😅

I didn't get into reenacting until, I was I my mid 20s, and that was Civil War reenacting. Honestly, I didn't realize they even did other periods, until around that time? Even though, I lived about 40 miles from Gettysburg and close to Annville, Pennsylvania, Fort Indiantown Gap, where they hold the "Battle of the Bulge" event. Most of the people could start rather young and only be field musicians. A lot of families participated, however, I was the only one from my family that was interested. I would say, given that weapons, which are mostly original, the person should be at least 18, although 16 year old could participate? With me, a younger person, might find it difficult? The hobby is expensive, especially original equipment and uniforms. Hey, if the person wants to participate, be prepared to put out some money. It's not like the old days, where you can find a helmet for $20 or a pistol belt, canteen and cover, cup, or haversack for cheap...

I am a Civil War reenactment about a year ago in June and I was 9 I am trying to send that same month and I didn’t have to be like 16 or 18. I just had my uncle with me when I was nine and also my two cousins.

While I do still have some of my grandfathers gear he gave me and he was a veteran of WWII I will keep it encased in the display I made for him before he died

I started at 14 and we werent allowed into the field until you had 6 months safety, firearms, tactics, drill and ceremonies that way we knew safety and how to march and act like a soldier.
