The Prussians called Waterloo, La Belle Alliance because that was an Inn where Napoleon had his Headquarters. After the defeat of the French Middle Guard, their army broke and the Anglo-Allied and Prussian forces pushed them back. The Prussians took the Belle Alliance and wanted the battle to be called that, but Wellington wanted the more English sounding name of 'Waterloo' where his headquarters were.

The Prussian diplomat who proclaimed ''The confederation is dissolved'' to the confederation council and walking out after being threatened with war must have felt (and looked) like the biggest badass of his time.

Fun fact:
The only lost German flag🇩🇪 in the franco-Prussian war was captured by Joseph Garibaldi🇮🇹 in the battle of Dijon. The Italian general at the head of an irregular army made out of volunteers from all around the world (most of them were Italians, Polish🇵🇱 and Americans🇺🇸) with this battle shocked everyone so much that even Bismarck himself asked to have Garibaldi’s head brought to him (he failed). The event is so unknown today because Garibaldi’s enemies in Italy did everything they could to advertise the event as little as possible and the French were outraged that the only one that managed to achieve such goal was an old Italian man with arthritis (even though they still keep that flag in a museum today)
