Ships to take "lift" when passing through a hydropower station in SW. China's Guizhou, known for its Karst landscape. With a height difference of 199 meters, the "ship lift" is a 3-stage waterway. #GLOBALink

I was already impressed by the ship lift… then the super high water viaduct was just amazing… finally the water tunnel through the mountain just took the cake. Good job to the engineers very impressive.

@1:06, the cables are more than 3" in diameter. I remember designing cranes where I used 1" cable. The blue box must be a reducer with synchronized axles stretching across the other side. @ 0:15, you can see cable groupings on both sides. Magnificent piece of engineering, I tip my hat to the designers.

I'm constantly amazed by China's engineering feats, this is what happens when a government focuses its resources on building infrastructure and improving the welfare of their people instead of spending trillions on pointless wars. The US Military for example is finally pulling out of Afghanistan after 20 years of occupation. Ask yourself, is the place any safer now than it was 20 years ago? What did they actually achieve?

I participated design of a typo one in 1990s. Three Gorge Dam applied this technique in 2004. It work well until now.
