NASA's Scott Kelly spent a year on board the International Space Station to test the effects of space travel on his body, while his identical twin and fellow astronaut Mark Kelly remained on earth. WIRED's Robbie Gonzalez speaks with Dr. Francine Garrett-Bakelman, lead author of "The NASA Twins Study: A multidimensional analysis of a year-long human spaceflight," to hear about the groundbreaking results of their study and to find out what it means for the future of human spaceflight.

This is very interesting! I first heard of this study when he first went into space, and I'm now glad that I can hear the results.

I have a twin brother. And we always wanted to be Astronauts.
So, if you're hiring... Hit me up.

Anyone else thought the twins themselves would appear in this vid?

Wait, you guys had the chance to do an experiment like this and you didn't have the twins follow the exact same diet? That throws a HUGE variable into the mix. How in the world could you NOT have them follow the same diet and still call this a viable experiment?

It's an interesting case study, but a sample size of one doesn't give empirically reliable results.

ngl I was waiting for the time dilation effect on the twins where one will be younger than the other and I am disappointed by the lack of it

Wait, you are telling me the astronaut on earth didn't follow the same diet as his brother? What a letdown, then what is the point.

Imagine being the only person in the study about something so scientifically significant.

3:40 What is going on here? I'm sure that animation is meant to depict a chromosome with telomeres on the tips, but that has almost no resemblance to the structure of a chromosome. It bears closer resemblance to a double helix of DNA.

If you live in space for a year, you won’t need a facelift because gravity isn’t tugging at your skin 🙃

That doesn't explain anything, the video only talks about why but not what does it means

Imagine being the one twin that didn’t go to space

The only point of sending twins to space is one of them can die and the other pretends to be the dead one.

Gene expression changed. I wish she'd given an example or two of particular genes affected.
