this is such an interesting speech because rolling up the welcome mat is the only album of hers that i like (i've tried to go back and listen to her others since i discovered it but i don't like them at all) and i think it's because she truly had something worth saying - that she needed to say. i really think she should consider tapping into that in her future work and not worry so much about the other stuff because listeners will find the authenticity in a song or an album and connect with it whether it initially seems like it will be 'good on radio' or 'play well live' (which i think these songs DO anyway) or not
