Honda CRF300L Test Ride

I'll share my thoughts from the quick 8 minute spin around the fairly technical track. I immediately felt at home when climbing on, great ergonomics. There is enough power to get you up to speed in a short amount of time and deep sand is hardly a problem anymore. I would not say that it has too much more power than the 250L but that peak power you got from the 250L at 8000rpm seems to be available from around 5000rpm on the 300L so no need to wring its neck. Power delivery is more linear with noticeable low down torque which the 250L was lacking. What ever they did with the clutch is amazing because it is really difficult to stall. Even if accidentally in a too high gear when other bikes would stall the 300L refuses to stall and just kept chugging on.

Suspension was plush but not too plush like the 250Rally. I always felt connected to the ground and there was no washed out soggy feeling I find on the 250rally front when riding sand. For my weight at 76kg and my riding style I find no need to change the suspension setup. The seat was also really comfortable for a stock seat, no need for a seat concepts upgrade. The only negative thing I found about the 300L was the heat from the radiator fan would cook your right leg. I rode the 450L and 250 rally on the same sections and they ran much cooler.

Honda have done some really nice upgrades to the 250L and I believe it would be worth upgrading from a 250L. You get much more in a adventure package like this for under 100k. I wouldn't mind one in my garage if I had extra space. I still had lots of fun riding the 250 Rally while following the guys testing out the 300L even though the 250 Rally is slightly under powered and has terrible sand manners.

I've been riding bikes for 50 years and this is the type of riding that appeals to me now. Back country, easy trails, great views....and alone.

"I don't know where this goes." That's the whole point of having a dual-sport!

Love it man. Best 300 vid yet since they have started to hit the market. Great vid of diversity and power band.

Finally a 300 review that looks right to me. I got the 1st gen 250L, so tiny bit "harder" suspension then 2nd gen bikes and at 75kg I run stock suspension setup and its just fine. This suspension stuff I see on 300 vids around to me looks better then 2nd gen bikes, and less "harsh" (talking small differances here) damping wise then 1st gen, so just spot on if you ain't racing it. Ofc racetech ohlins wilbers etc will be better, but most wont need it. Also what you wrote about power and torque being lower down. Again, when 2nd gen came out there were complaints that power band went up that engine is the same like cb300. 1st gen had less power but it was down. Taking into consideration that they said they rearanged where power is for this motor, the changed gearbox thats lower for 1-3 gears, and general power and torque increase, it needs to be noticable unlike some say. Not gonna be crazy fast now but definitely needs to be noticable in the ballpark of having 13T front on older bike. Now I havent yet ridden the 300, but as 250 owner for 5 years you see some stuff through the video too. Thanks.

I have the 250 rally with YSS rear suspension upgrade (just the basic version) and race tech front fork upgrade. Completely transformed the bike- super comfortable performs great

Very cool ride and beautiful place. There's nothing like this in my country in EU. Everything is restricted, cultivated and populated. No free land.

Now that's a test ride! Such a beautiful area man. I can only dream of that here in NL, the land of dull flat land and nowhere to ride off-road..
